I've always been a bit of a bootleg hoarder, but now I'm coming to terms with the fact that I am not the library of Congress and therefore don't need an historical record of every time everyone everywhere has played. I have so far barely touched the mountain of live recordings available of Frank Black and his various incarnations.
So - Are there gigs you can think of off the top of your head that stand out as excellent? Can you share with me what your favorite Frank/Pixies bootlegs are? |

The one time I couldn't get hold of a ticket. Spent 2 hours outside the Underworld that night. We heard snippets of songs from the basement every time the door swung open. I'd love to hear a boot from the show... for closure, you know
My favorites are:
Solo Borderline, London Nov 1990 McCabes 09.21.1996 Barfly, Glasgow 2000 Hotel Utah, San Francisco 10.19.2007

Hi Trobi, I was at the underworld that night having flown over especially for the show. Yep, it was so worth it. Sorry i dont have the boot anymore. It is floating around though. It was notable to me because we heard alot of show me your tears that night solo. I brought a friend who was a huge Pixies fan but not so keen on the solo years (he hadnt listened properly imo). It was great, real intimate, one man, one guitar belting out manitoba, horrible day, jaina blues. There was also some Pixies stuff in there. I remember a couple of uber fans were right up the front kind of screaming the new lyrics into FB's face. Needless to say Frank was not amused, and told them to button it. He said he needed to learn the lyrics properly himself. Poor guys quiet as mice following that. |
