Anyone else into them? Just listening to their new album "Together" and it's really great, full of nice uplifting melodic tunes.

How much Neko Case is on the new album? I know she's touring with them this spring/summer. |

Dunno, there are plenty of female vokes on there though. You can listen to the full album here. It is just awesome from start to finish.

One of my favorite bands. My wife, and my brother and me are going to see them in NYC in June.
Darwin, Neko usually sings 3-4 leads per album, and sings backup on the rest.

Thanks for the link, pot.
That's cool Brian, I get to see 'em too in June. Can't wait.
Haven't seen 'em since they opened up for Belle & Sebastian a million years ago. |

i used to be obsessed with this band. in the past couple years they haven't found their way into my cd player (or iPod, as it were) very much. the latest AC release hasn't gotten many spins, either. i don't know why. i listened to the first several songs off this new one last night (thanks, pot). it's good, but for some reason it's just not what i want to hear right now.
saw them live with dan and neko after Twin Cinema came out. it was absolutely amazing.

I believe that last tour was without Neko (or at least some shows were). |

If the latest album is anything to go by then I'm looking forward to checking out some of their earlier stuff. Anyone got any recommendations? |

All 4 are great, but grab them in order: Mass Romantic, Electric Version, Twin Cinema, Challengers.

i started with Electric Version, went back and got Mass Romantic, and when Twin Cinema came out i was blown away by it. i warmed on them somewhere around Challengers. again, i have no idea why. maybe the flame will reignite sometime.

What do you guys think of the new album as compared to the previous four? I'm listening to it and thinking, how could they come up with anything better than this? Would you say it is their best album? I've watched a few videos on YouTube and there are also some great tunes there. Neko Case is cougarlicious. |

I've just listened to the link twice so I can't comment on the album that much but I think it's got some really good moments from what I hear. I don't think it blows away the earlier releases or anything. I too loved Electric Version because it was the first one I bought. I almost think you become partial to the first one you hear by them, because everyone I knew that already had listened to Mass Romantic liked it best.
I think they are all great, but lean more toward Electric Version and Mass Romantic as my favorites. Followed by Challengers and then Twin Cinema.
Can't wait to get my copy of this new one. Glad you are liking them by the way Pot. Great band. Plus AC Newman's first solo cd was catchy stuff although I haven't heard it in a while.

They're amazing. One of the best bands of the last 20 years. Trust me - go get their first two at least.

yeah, you can't go wrong. the pitchfork review pretty much nailed it. lately they've gotten a little mid-tempo, but they made a name for themselves on high energy pop genius. ac's Slow Wonder is great. Get Guilty is a'ight. mid-tempo.
just saw them perform on Jimmy Fallon. they really are an amazing band.
Todd Fancey's albums (Fancey and Schmancey) are totally fantastic, too.

My Shepherd really makes me think of Stevie Nicks singing with Fleetwood Mac. |

The new cd has been stuck in my ear, car, and brain for the last 4 days...it's got some really great songs on it. Overall strong start to finish with a few songs that don't do it for me, but love Sweet Talk Sweet Talk, and about 5 others are almost as good for me. Pretty outstanding I would say.

I think Neko Case sounds much better now than she did with the Velvet Underground. |

show last night was great! full band. they're awesome. played a big set..24 songs or so. they seemed a bit tired at the start but then turned it on as the show progressed....lot of driving on the early part of the tour...yesterday they had a 10 hour drive from saskatoon to winnipeg before they played.
the opening band was stellar- the mountain goats. anyone listen to them before? iron maiden was cranked before they came on. Maiden!! (first band i ever saw live) I knew i was in for a treat. I had listened to some of their songs before the show but didn’t know much about them. Very good live. The lead singer, John Darnielle, had some good stories. Really entertaining. Great lyrics. They sounded very good. I’ll definitely be listening to more of their stuff.
daisy- if you're going to the show in minni tonight you should definately try to check them out.

:) I did check them out. It was a sold out show.
Gold Mask opened up. I really liked the singers voice.
The New Pornographers put on a great show. I don't want to give away too much because I know a lot of you are seeing them, but I really enjoyed that they played so many songs. I have to admit I don't have their new album yet and I don't have anything before Twin Cinema so I don't know how many they played off the new album vs. the back catalog.
I really liked the stage set up.
It was fun to see the band up close - several years ago I was very far away and couldn't see the band when they opened up for Belle and Sebastian. Of course, to Neko was not on that tour so it was also very nice to have her with the group on this tour, too.
I hope they come back into town soon!

i'm finally really getting into Challengers, Together, and AC Newman's Get Guilty. he seems to have grown tired of distortion and synths and replaced them with acoustic guitar and strings. it's a marked change from what was seemingly a signature sound, but i've given up my doubts and i've decided to trust carl newman with his new endeavors. it's paying off!
"sweet talk, sweet talk" is my favorite off the new one. i'm really hung up on "prophets" from Get Guilty, too.
