Over on the NSE thread, forum member Jose Jones posted an expanded SVN FNGRS track list to make it longer and include some of the tracks that have been floating about since the return of "Black Francis," which is a great idea in my book.
So that got the rusty ole' neuron's firing (well, the cabernet probably helped), so I've been messing around tonight (in between making pizza dough and tackling a gigantic laundry pile in the basement) with my own take on that idea. I figured I'd fire up a thread for us to post our own personal mixes and what-not. On anything I guess, doesn't have to be SVN FNGRS.
I came up with this mix and after listening to it once through, it really flows well. I really tried for a logical order. However, I didn't know where the hell to put Ghost Coming, and it's still out of place. I liked Jose's idea of Don't Get Me Wrong as the final track. I didn't mess with the order of the SVN FNGRS cuts, but I stuck all kinds of good stuff between them. I know there are (in a few cases) many versions of some of these songs out there, so I'll put the versions I used in parentheses. No parentheses means it's from the album or the source is obvious.
SVN.1 FNGRS
1) The Seus (Charles Normal mix) 2) Garbage Heap 3) Half Man 4) Serious Curious (from blackfrancis.net) 5) Virginia Reel 6) I Sent Away 7) Demon Girl 8) She's My Way 9) Get Away Oil (from Live In Nijmegen) 10) Gyaneshwar (from Live In Nijmegen) 11) Seven Fingers 12) The Tale Of Lonesome Fetter 13) Polly's Into Me 14) When They Come To Murder Me 15) Ghost Coming 16) Don't Get Me Wrong
Edit: something interesting - that Live In Nijmegen Gyaneshwar preceding Seven Fingers is a blast. He introduces the album cut of seven fingers perfectly!

I like that mix a lot!
'Polly's Into Me' is one of my favourite 'Black Francis' era songs. |

It's on itunes as a bonus track to Bluefinger along with Virginia Reel. Speaking of itunes, why the hell is there not more FB on there? I have everything so it doesn't matter but... The only FB albums on there are the new Black Francis ones, FMRM, Honeycomb, Greatest Hits, and The Cult of Ray (of all things).

What's the story on Ghost Coming? I don't think I've heard that one.

check out trobrianders post on page 6 of the NSE thread.
From what I gather, it's a NSE era track inspired by a run-in with a malevolent spirit in an after-hours Dublin bar.

I like the idea of extending Svn Fngrs, but if i were to do a playlist i'd have to keep Svn Fngrs in tact with its original tracklist first. I've listened to it so many times, any other combination would be really weird to my ears.

I feel ya. But I always got the vibe from it that the sequencing wasn't a priority on that one. Kind of like FMRM. Just a pile of songs that you could shuffle and it would change the mood or flow. For me anyway.

i tend to be a little religious about this kind of thing, so i too would feel sinful breaking up the SVN songs. but johnny's inspired me. i might break them up. we'll see.
i'm going to throw "road movie to berlin" on there, too. it'll fit real nice.

Isn't Road Movie to Berlin a They Might Be Giants Song?

Ahh, I see. I couldn't figure out why the hell you would want someone else's song on a FBF mix. Just looked the song up on iTunes. I never knew about Frank covering it. Probably need to pick it up...
