We know the gigs down under are Doolittle but when they come back to Europe I wonder if they will go through with this Bossanova tour thing. I'm seeing them at Primavera (which, btw, has possibly the best line up for any festival I've seen) and there just doesn't seem to be any offical word. I'll get a kick out of any show, but considering I saw Doolittle around six months ago, I almost would prefer a "standard" show (my favourite part of a Pixies gig is almost the anticipation of what they'll play next) but that said, only if they changed the set up a bit. Obviously they play Monkey, Debaser at every gig etc but I wouldn't seeing them interchange a lot of the set from date to date. |

My friends are texting me from the Toulouse gig. It's annoying. All I know right now is that they've played UMass and WIMM. Surprise, surprise.

Tonight is the first warm up show of the Summer tour, in Toulouse, France, followed by shows in Barcelona, Pinkpop, Antwerp, Nantes , London and Ferrara. The band will be playing songs from every album including some not played live since they reformed in 2004!!

"Rare" songs played, apparently: Cecilia Ann, Rock Music, Allison, Dig For Fire, Planet of Sound, Alec Eiffel.
edit: and Winterlong too (not sure if it's that rare)

What's the record for most songs from BN & TLM played at a post-reunion gig? In Paris, 2005, they played Allison, Is She Weird, Stormy Weather, Planet of Sound, Alec Eiffel, Sad Punk, Head On, U Mass & Subbacultcha. Good times.

Probably the record. We got those in Alexandra Palace that week, but over two nights. 'Velouria' was played too.
I'm really excited about next week's London show, if the performances last year are anything to go by! |

I was in Paris that night for this gig, it was a special night. I would love to hear Rock Music and Cecilia Ann though, damn that looks to have been a great show. |

i was at the bikini on the 26. very poor sound. intro was really good. just 4 "rare" songs... the rest of the setlist was sadly without any surprise. kim explained that "le chef" BF made the setlist, and dig for fire was sung for the fourth time. (she made several mistakes, several when singing break my body) sadly, the show was not recorded. it was a warm-up show with no band opening. |

to be honest not that 'rare' altogether at least they weren't cheating by playing the b-sides of doolittle.
This setlist is finally a good representation of the 4 1/5 records they made. Now we are hoping for a bossa-tour. I skipped the doolittle one, but wouldn't miss that one.

Yeah, 'rare' has only really had any meaning since the reunion began, where 'Bossanova' and 'Trompe' seemed to be treated like the forgotten sibling in the attic.
It makes me a bit angry when these albums aren't given the respect they deserve.
These setlists seem great though!

there are some bad reviews about the pinkpop show, mostly because the pixies were not into it and boring to watch.

Yeah, I completely agree with you. I was in the pit for it and it was literally do or die. You can always remember how good they are live, but never how intense it is in the crowd |

i wouldn't say it was the best show ever. the sound in the venue was really bad. it crossed the line of what's acceptable many times.
and - maybe partially because of the bad sound, i don't know - they were playing a bit sloppy in my opinion. and both charles and kim sang out of tune at some points. i'm not used to that. kim completely messed up the woohoos in where is my mind, for example. another thing that wasn't so bad, but didn't please me too much, is that an echo effect was used for almost every scream. cool effect, but they overused it. maybe an attempt to save charles' voice a bit?
