shame i only met you very shortly, carl. i had to run to get the train back home after the gig (and i just made it).

My brother went and sent me this email entitled "This Brother's Gone To Heaven!":
Perfect, perfect, perfect......I don't want to make you jealous but what a gig!
Decent venue and 10,000 fans or so. I got there early to soak in the atmosphere and have a couple of beers and gradually get more and more excited. Cover band ok listenable to. Then we headed into the crowd and stopped at about 25 metres from stage - good view!
.....everything went a bit dark and then Un Chien Andalou was projected onto the stage back drop. The excitement was palpable, lots of whistles and then the grand entrance of The Pixies! As you know they started with 4 b sides. Frank Black's scream on Bailey's Walk was the highlight of that little section.
Pause, lights down and then suddenly Doolittle in big letters appeared behind the band and the immortal bass intro to Debaser, cue crowd in ecstasy. From there on in it was sublime - like listening to your favourite album live and so incredibly well executed.
First encore - Wave of Mutilation and Into The White
Second - Umass, Vamos, Gigantic and Where Is My Mind?
Highlights - All of the gig! But if I had to choose....
Tame and the screaming of 'TAAAAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMMMMMEEEEEEEEEE'
Silver - Unbelievably beautiful, with a backdrop of cacti and rocks ala cowboy films
Dead - raw as a raw thing
Number 13 Baby - La Lola!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Gouge Away chorus at 1,000,000 decibels
Umass and the screaming again
And God is 7...And God is 7 (screaming yet again)
Vamos and Joey's Spinal Tap guitar solo moment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
in fact it was all bloody brilliant. My only wish - Broken Face and Something Against You. Hopefully next time............. |

It was amazing. Amazing. It was my first time seeing them ever, I was so excited. Loved every minute of it.
Like I told Ernesto before, I'm never going to experience something like that ever again. Magic.
