Just noticed that Marc Maron follows Frank on Twitter.
A Black Francis episode of WTF would be very cool. |

I've actually been waiting for that, he has had many more musical guests on recently. The Nick Cave episode was great, would love to hear what Charles and Marc would talk about. |

What a strange time to be alive. What a sad, strange little story. I guess you have to be really down to do this to one of your favorite artist's online. I think Frank took it easy on him, all things considered.
I wonder if they'll be an eventual social media backlash down the road, people burning out on it. Last summer I read a book that covered the pressures teenagers felt regarding facebook expectations, it sounded horrible.
I suppose it's just something people are trying to find a balance with, and even though what this guy did, sad to say, isn't anything out of the ordinary in terms of utilizing social media, it still strikes me as terrible and a sad commentary on the negative element of social media.

what's sad about this story is how this is how he decides (decided) to spend his time. he may feel like he's a hermit, alone in a chair, but he's an adult who makes his own decisions. choose to go outside. choose to go to the fucking gym. take the effort to do something. go to the hobby lobby and buy a paint-by-numbers. get a fucking dog and take it for daily walks. or just fuck off. whatever, dude.

I actually would love it if Frank did tweet what this guy did when impersonating him. Not that I think Frank's music is horrible at all- I just wish everybody would stop waiting for Doolittle 2-Electric Boogaloo.

I'd really like to hear the vocals track of Blue Eyed Hexe, especially that third verse... I remember listening to the isolated vocals of Tame a couple of years ago, it was quite impressive and very interesting. |

I don't know if this is the right topic, but I have been on and off the new Pixies. To me the new Pixies is like Frank Black Pixies = i.e. Frank Black goes on in Pixies name. Pixies was different - so Frank can do 1 of 3 things:
1. Get Kim back in group (best option) 2. Get someone like Kim that can provide the same energy (next best) 3. Pack it in and continue as Frank Black |

Kim isn't coming back, so option #1 is out. I suspect that the Pixies will continue touring for as long as it's financially rewarding to do so. As things stand now, they are still in demand, and playing fairly large venues. Eventually it will come to end, everything does, even the Rolling Stones. |

http://thequietus.com/articles/16795-baxter-dury-interview
I first came to Happy Soup when someone at EMI gave it to me. I played it and quite enjoyed it, but it was after reading an interview with Black Francis where he was raving about it that I decided to get it out again, and after that I was hooked.
BD: He was really nice wasn't he, old Frank?
Did you tour with him?
BD: Nah, I dunno, he just got it somehow. Someone must have sent it to him. We met him for a few hours after a gig and he was such a sweet guy, really genuine. Unfussy, you know.
I met him once when I was pissed about ten years ago and he pushed me over.
BD: Did he really? Were you too pissed?
I imagine he's probably quite nice if you're not a drunk bellend.
BD: I don't think he takes nonsense. There are a lot of weird characters in that band. The other one was pretty scary to be honest. The other dude was a bit, 'whoa, he's not like Frank'. He was a bit edgy and weird, you know, a bit razorblade-y. Frank was a sweetheart.
Was that Joey Santiago?
BD: Yeah, maybe. He was on a different frequency. There was something really genuine about Frank though, he was drinking a glass of water after the gig - I'm not even sure if he drinks - but he was just a really nice dude. A solid dude. I bet he can be a cunt if he wants to be. I bet he could switch if he needed to. He's quite tough, know what I mean? |

Pixies mentioned in Mojo magazine article on The Fall.
Scan.
"The Fall don't play Big New Prinz these days, but the Pixies do [their live cover version]. I saw it on a computer - it's all right." - Mark E. Smith.
"I saw Frank Black do a talk recently because the Pixies were doing a cover of Big New Prinz. He was asked why they were doing that and he said, 'Oh, because I went to the ballet.' So he went to one, and I think Sonic Youth came. I heard the Pixies' version of Big New Prinz and I know Ding who played bass in The Fall after me and who has also played on Pixies stuff. The Pixies were playing Manchester Apollo, so I asked Ding if I could get up - the guy who wrote Big New Prinz - and do it with them. But it was a no (laughs)." - Steve Hanley. |
