i finally warmed up to the record just in time to realize they were playing the next week. seriously, even if you're not crazy about petit fours this was a barnburner of a show. violet's killer and a complete joy to watch. jason's killer. the pregnant keyboardist and backup bassist (i forget her name) was killer. frank was KILLER, i'd seen him 4 times previously (catholics in 2002, pixies in 2004, solo acoustic in 2006, and with duane, billy, and eric later that same year) but he was practically vamping it up on stage, doing exaggerated arm flexes and miming being sleepy and talking more than i'd ever heard before. haha, he and violet had this stupendous back and forth about how he "knocked her up" and how that forced her to drop out of the bluefinger tour, and then introduced seeing stars with, "...speaking of coitus." at the end of the show he practically leaned off the stage and gave an overly dramatic bow!
they played all of petit fours, plus a strange day, ma carrefour, and threshold apprehension. break the angels was probably the highlight, with violet pulling off some nice lyrical improv. i hope they're recording some of these shows
this was also the first frank related show i've attened where nobody shouted out a single pixies request! in fact the most annoying person there kept screaming "PUNK ROCK CITY!" and i mean, that's a fucking awesome request -- if you're going to be one of those people. and even without an encore i didn't hear anyone grumbling about no where is my mind? or monkey gone to heaven. the band was that good
i encountered violet on the street afterward and was hoping to thank her and maybe get a photo, but unfortunately when you go to concerts by yourself it makes you feel creepy to be hovering around a musician without a friend to act as a buffer. so i just left before i made a fool of myself...
ahh, vacation time. frank solo in wellfleet tomorrow!

jealous! that's an awesome back-to-back.
The waxworks were an immensely eloquent dissertation on the wonderful ordinariness of mankind. |

I was there also. Great show. I've been meaning to get the album for some time now, so I didn't know any of the songs in advance. But it was great. I don't know what I was thinking but I didn't expect it to be as rocking as it was.
That woman named Silver in the band was cool. You don't see many pregnant women rocking it on stage in a club anymore. |

I can not say for certain but to my recollection Threshold Apprehension was played perfectly by this line up.
