The coverage I've seen has been typical. The Science is in the debate is over God is dead!
and yes, I'm asking you.
(swine flu thread here I come)

Certainly an astonishing fossil. Apart from the serious doubts about considering this a possible 'missing link', there is apparently some criticism of the way this has been packaged as a big event, with an unveiling and multimedia event. But still, it's pretty incredible. |

Compared to a lot of what passes as news these days I find it hard to believe anyone can find fault with a big noise being made out of a genuinely interesting scientific discovery.
Two words come to mind - Jade Goody - also a possible contender for the title 'Missing Link", though I hate to think what it is exactly she would be linking the rest of us to. |

I don't like that it was found something like 20 years, but held privately until the price was right. |

I would have thought an amateur fossil hunter would want to share their findings with the world as soon as possible, regardless of it's potential value. Isn't being the one to discover the fossil kudos enough?
I don't know the right and wrong thing to do when sharing scientific discoveries, but is keeping something like this a secret frowned upon? A research team kept Ida hidden for a further two years. |

Next up "ANDi" The glow in the dark monkey. I'm curious as to the rational behind a project like this. Why make non glowing creatures glow when exposed to blue light? Admittedly, I was amused by the effect that "Black Lights" had on ones appearance when entering a club (except for me teefs) but I was 19 at the time and drinking legally in Hong Kong. Identification is the only practical application that comes to mind.
Oh, and it's brought to you by the good people at: Oregon Regional Primate Research Centre at the Oregon Health Sciences University.
