Should be quite an interesting and one-of-a-kind performance...
From the Portland Mercury:
"SUNDAY, MAY 17
The musicians of the School of Rock are some damn lucky kiddos: Not only do they get to present a night of music from the legendary Pixies, but they get to do so alongside Pixies frontman Frank Black himself!
Berbati's Pan, 10 SW 3rd, 1 & 5 pm (Frank Black only at the 5 pm show), $10-12, all ages"

Since I get the following error message when I try to edit my original post:
"Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a000d'
Type mismatch: 'rs'
/post.asp, line 642"
I thought I'd just mention that this show is in Portland, Oregon this Sunday, May 17th.

Damn it, I have a family trip planned for this weekend and won't be able to make this show... as you said, jetblackriver, a one-of-a-kind performance.
Not to contradict you, jbr, but I should point out that the Berbati calendar says "Frank Black, School of Rock" for both the 1pm and 5pm shows.
Crap. I hate to miss this. Looks ridiculous and cool. |

The following is from the Willamette Week website's music calendar, and it doesn't clear up the 1pm/5pm show issue at all. (It also includes the dubious statement that BFB now lives here in Portland, which is news to me.)
Berbati’s Pan | 231 SW Ankeny St., 248-4579 | more info Frank Black, School of Rock [OMG!] So, apparently, legendary Pixie Frank Black currently lives here in PDX. Holy shit—is that common knowledge?! I mean I knew about Eugene, but now here? Frank Effing Black: every cool kid’s teenage hero, right?! Well, screw celeb culture ’n’ all, but I still wanna stalk the poor guy and ask how much it sucks to know that everyone will always care more about his former band than any solo output, no matter how golden it is. On second thought, I should just go to this show and shut the hell up—fella’s a living legend. WHO LIVES HERE! OMG! DAVID ROBINSON. 1 pm. 231 SW Ankeny St., 248-4579. $10 advance, $12 day of show. All ages.

I was going based off of what the Portland Mercury said, but unfortunately, there isn't a definitive answer regarding the 1pm & 5pm shows. However, ticketweb is listing Frank Black for both performances:

Just wanted to let everyone know, I just received confrimation from the School of Rock - Portland coordinator: "He will only be at the evening show". There you have it, Frank Black will be playing pixies tunes with the School of Rock kids at the 5pm performance only.

The show was pretty awesome. Those kids really killed the songs. There was a rotating group of a dozen or so kids playing the songs, some switching duties depending on the song. Charles was in the crowd smiling the whole time. He took several pics and videos with his cell phone. You could tell how much he enjoyed it. He joined the kids for the final five songs of the night. The setlist with just the kids, in order: Bone Machine, Debaser, Levitate Me, Hang Wire, Ed Is Dead, Cactus, Caribou, Dig For Fire, Gigantic, Blown Away, Manta Ray, Letter To Memphis, Tame, Alec Eiffel, Tony's Theme, La La Love You, Velouria, River Euphrates, Monkey Gone To Heaven, Planet Of Sound, I Bleed, Here Comes Your Man, Gouge Away, U-Mass and Head On. With Black Francis: Hey, The Holiday Song, Wave of Mutilation, Where Is My Mind? and No. 13.

During a break between songs, Charles said that the kids should quit school and go around the world with him. Man, if he said that to me when I was a teenager, even in jest, I would have passed out.

Thanks for the info! What a great setlist. Maybe some of those songs will make it into the Pixies reunion 2.0. Sounds like an awesome night for the kids. |

I would have liked to see a kid pull off Tame. Seriously. If kid pulled that off, it would be great. |

It was great. It was sung buy a kid named Leland (according to the program). He also sang No. 13 with Charles. The kid has a great voice.

I went down there, but bummer the show sold out. We ended up walking around a bit then double-backed to the bar on the other side of the building and could serendipitously hear a lot of the show thumping under the pre-recorded music playing in the bar. It was clear enough to identify most songs, but couldn't really tell if it was Frank singing or a kid doing an impersonation. But yeah, a few drinks, a doughnut at Voodoo, and a stroll on the waterfront, and it turned out to be a pretty nice evening.
