I can't believe the guy with the pictures has already been scared off.
It seems from those pictures that there's just one DVD-A and one Blu-ray disc, each containing every Pixies album instead of one disc per album. Can anyone who's gotten the monster confirm that? |

Here is some guy's review-
Ok, I finally got my limited edition delivered today, and if you're like I was and very frustrated at the general lack of any information anywhere about the blu-ray in the set, let me give my impressions.
There is only one blu-ray disc in the box set which contains the following:
- All 5 Pixies albums (Come On Pilgrim through Trompe Le Monde) in 2.0 and 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio, accompanied by a 1080p slideshow of the Minotaur art.
- All of the band's music videos in 480p standard definition, 2.0 DTS-HD MA audio.
- The 1992 Brixton Academy live show in 480p standard definition and 2.0 and 5.1 DTS-HD MA audio. In the Minotaur packaging itself the blu-ray is not listed as having the Brixton gig but it is contained when you load the disc up.
The 2 DVDs in the box set are identical to the blu-ray in terms of content, just spread out over 2 discs. Contrary to what I've seen posted around, they are both regular DVD video discs, not DVD-Audio discs.
I'm pretty happy with the surround mixes of the albums. The surround speakers are used pretty much to just help the sound fill the room as if you were in a practice space with the band. The music doesn't really lend itself to fancy use of the surround speakers and they thankfully don't try to force it here.
The Brixton video quality is definitely a step up from what you can currently find of the Brixton gig on Youtube, but it's not spectacular. The audio quality also sounds pretty great though again not on the level of something like the recent Stop Making Sense blu-ray. The DTS-HD MA track on the blu-ray sounded noticeably better than the DTS/Dolby Digital track on the DVD. The blu-ray and DVD share the exact same video footage in 480p.
So for those people interested in the blu-ray component of this box set, just be aware that it constitutes an audio-only upgrade over the DVD, and not video (unless you count the HD slideshow during the albums). |

so, i like it. i'm really digging on the surround sound mixes of the albums. mrs plenty was surprised to see that they all had hair back in 91 even if they should have been shaving. and kim was so thin... |

Did anyone ever do an audio rip of the Brixton DVD by any chance? Thought I'd be able to find one, but doesn't seem so. Hmm. |

Grammy nomination for Epsom tutor
7:20am Tuesday 18th January 2011
A tutor from the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) at Epsom has been nominated for a prestigious Grammy Award thanks to some help from his students.
Graphic designer Vaughan Oliver will jet off to Los Angeles for the music awards ceremony on February 13, 2011, after the art-work he produced for the Pixies’ Minotaur Deluxe Edition boxed set was shortlisted in the Best Boxed or Special Limited Edition Package award.
Vaughan, who owns design company v23, said: “I wanted some visceral, raw typography - using a variety of techniques - to express the track titles in an organic three-dimensional way, so I thought the students would be ideal for the job.
“I liked the idea of creating a ‘design lab’ within the faculty to enable the students to gain experience working with an art director on a live project.
“The students truly rose to the occasion. I think it’s the most successful project I’ve worked on in 30 years and has been, all-round, a very rewarding experience.”
Second year BA (Hons) Graphic Design student, Ben Ewing, 21, of Tavistock, Devon, said: “Not in a million years would I have expected to have an opportunity to work on a project like this.
“Creating work for Minotaur was great fun. Vaughan's style of direction meant we had plenty of freedom to experiment with the imagery, so for us, it was perfect.
Minotaur will go up against The White Stripes’ Under Great White Northern Lights limited- edition boxed set and several other artists' packages.
Fellow student, Michael Speed, added: "Working with someone like Vaughan is an eye opener, especially if you are new to the industry and still a student.
"Whether the project wins or not, the key aspect is exposure for everyone involved. As the design industry is becoming increasingly difficult to break into, this kind of project is a great starting block for all involved."
The 53rd Grammy Awards will take place at the Staples Center, Los Angeles, and will be shown live on American television.
