New 4-Track Breeders EP Goes From "Fate To Fatal"
It started off with one song and ended with a four track EP named for it. The Breeders, the baby of Pixies bassist Kim Deal and twin sis Kelley, recorded "Fate and Fatal" at Fortress studios in London. It didn't stop there. They eventually took the project to Kim's basement where she also invited Screaming Trees/Queens of the Stone Age/Gutter Twins guitarist/vocalist Mark Lanegan over for a sing session, and laid down the EP's second track "The Last Time." It didn't stop there. Another basement track followed - "Pinnacle Hollow" - made on a 4-track tape. And it's all topped off with a cover of Bob Marley and the Wailers' "Chances Are" recorded at producer Steve Albini's Chicago studio.
"It seems that now," Kim said in a statement, "more than at any other time in the past, we could put the music out ourselves - hand-screen some cool artwork ourselves, sell the EPs at our shows and on our website, as well as get them to traditional record stores and other online outlets."
The Fate to Fatal EP will be self-released and out April 21st along with 1000 vinyl. A video for "Fate To Fatal" featuring the Breeders amidst a roller derby game is in post-production.
all I can say with all the grand duchy/pixies/breeders news is WOW

I'm glad to see the Breeders are keeping busy and actually being a real band instead of just putting an album out once every 15 years. |

Thanks pixie punk. Nothing particularly special, not bad though. And you can't beat a video full of cute chicks.
USATODAY.com - Record Store Day: Come celebrate 'cool stuff' culture.
...The Breeders' Kim Deal, who also plays bass for The Pixies, says she and her twin sister, Kelley, personally handscreened the artwork for her band's limited-edition (1,000 copies) vinyl Fate to Fatal EP, also available digitally at iTunes. They'll be making an in-store appearance at Shake It Records in Cincinnati. She says record stores, unlike mass-market retailers, are more than just a place to buy.
"They have the best haircuts and the worst attitudes," Deal says, laughing. "It almost used to be scary walking into a cool record store, because they were so judgmental and über-hip. But they did know a lot about music, whether they were making fun of what you were buying or not.
"You'd just go in to say, 'What's good?' "

The site is live, fatetofatal.com, if anyone is interested. I just picked up a copy. It's early and didn't realize you had the choice of basic black or a few colors. Oh well...

The Colours have already Sold Out by the way - only Black left.
So there is no CD version from what I can gather: Vinyl or digital only. Great, my two least favourite formats.

I wanted to buy it but hell, they were $12 plus $9 for shipping... That was a bit much for a 4-track record. Yeah, I'm cheap. Now they're sold out and I'm gutted.

Well, they've been shipped now, so there is always the chance they will show up on ebay.

on the contrary, it seems to boost breeders awareness since kim's name is in all those stories, which probably mention fate to fatal.
i'm pretty bummed i missed out on the vinyl.

When I ordered, I am sure your options were only Black, Red/Silver, Red/Blue or Red/Yellow. There have been quite a few going on Ebay for big $ and some were strange colours: orange, blue and green I have seen. Are they fakes, or did K/K D make other colours that I missed?
