There used to be this great site called Subbacultcha something. A google of subbacultcha comes up with some sites but none seem to be what I remember. Anyway, that old site used the term Subbacultcha to refer to the Boston 4AD family, with Frank as daddy and Kristin as mommy, and it followed the doings of all the branches on the tree. There was a lot there, but one of the more interesting bits of trivia that I recall is how Rich Gilbert’s connection goes back to early Muses.

Nice tree, but Nirvana shouldn't be on there if you ask me Replace that band with Dusty Trails (last of Jospehine Wiggs and Lucious Jackson's drummer)
Kim produced and sang on GBV 1995/1996 output, sang on Courtney Love's solo record (maybe you can add Nirvana anyway) and on Washing Machine of Sonic Youth.

Add these comments over there...part of the point was that it might spark discussion as it could never be definitive. I've since realised/discovered several that I've left off, e.g. Bob Mould of Sugar/Husker Du. It fascinates me. And I didn't know the Luscious Jackson link...I love them! It's great to know that there are people out there who love music as much as I do...and that this has caught the imagination of some.
Go on, show your knowledge over at the blog itself! ;)

Yeah, Rich Gilbert taught Jean Black guitar in the 80s, I think! the 'Fool the World' book is, of course, an excellent resource.

Erebus, I remember that site, it was great. It also had a great picture of the two bands together that I've never seen again |
