should i do it right by the strings? or above the strings? or just anywhere in the room? i can't find anything about micing this kind of piano on google.
I'm by no means an expert, but I think a lot depends on the room and how much echo you get. The closer you put it to the piano, the more you'll get a direct sound with less reverb or echo. I had mine in a small room so I opened the top and put a mic on either side, panned and eq'd the left mic for lower tones and the right for higher. Plus then you get a bit of stereo sound out of your piano.
But I'd be happy to find out there's a better way or what's wrong with this approach.
"Now you're officially my woman. Kudos. I can't say I don't envy you."
thanks, sadly i only have one mic and our piano's in the living room so i'm guessing the acoustics aren't that good. i've just been setting it above the piano (i don't have a stand for it). i guess opening the top would help, first i have to clear it off...
