Ballsy or stupid? The Colorado State University student newspaper published an editorial Friday that consisted of these words: "Fuck Bush."

"That's actually" not "a very clever editorial -- four simple words." Brevity isn't the goal when it comes to editorials --it's making one's point convincingly. The problem isn't that they used an expletive but that they didn't bother crafting a compelling argument at all. I'dda flunked 'em.

The words make nothing, it's lazy.

If the measure of the piece is whether it's well-argued, then maybe it fails. But if the measure is the attention it's received, then it nailed the mark. In all my years of opinion journalism, only one editorial I've been involved with has ever generated comparable attention. The headline, ironically, was: "George W. Bush for president." Readers were outraged that The Denver Post endorsed Bush for re-election.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

It isn't. That's sensationalism, not editorializing.
This story is kinda depressing.

I wouldn't say the thread title is very good advice, although apparently Laura followed it at least once.
"If you doze much longer, then life turns to dreaming. If you doze much longer, then dreams turn to nightmares." |
