hey! i used to think it sounded a lot like "you can't break a hard earned habit" - which doesn't really make sense. there's hard earned, and there's a hard habit to break, but not really a hard earned habit.
but hardened habit works... do you think's meant to sound like that? a drugs reference.

My crackpot theory is that that's what Herman Brood was singing, but he was maybe concerned with, I don't know, censors or something and didn't think he could get away with a title like that. Something along those lines. Listen carefully at the end of that video. He totally says "hardened habit."
