FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BLACK FRANCIS TO HIT THE ROAD WITH OCTOBER WEST COAST DATES

Los Angeles, CA - September 10, 2007 - In support of his brand-new solo album "Bluefinger" which is released tomorrow, September 11 (Cooking Vinyl), BLACK FRANCIS, formerly known as Frank Black, formerly lead singer of the iconic Pixies, will do a very special 14-concert west coast run beginning on Monday, October 1 with two nights in Portland, OR at the Fir Lounge. The tour will also include multiple nights in Los Angeles, Vancouver and San Francisco. The confirmed itinerary is below.

Black Francis will be joined on this trek by the talented group of musicians who recorded "Bluefinger" - Violet Clark/vocals, Dan Schmid/bass, and Jason Carter/drums, and of course Black Francis on guitar, harmonica and vocals.

Reviews for "Bluefinger" have been over the top - Mojo wrote, "'Bluefinger' marks an artistic rebirth for the King of Quiet/Loud," the [London] Times stated, "Frank Black is a genius, as a Pixie and even more so as a solo artist," while NME called "Bluefinger" "...his finest album since the demise of his influential 90s alt/rockers...this is a slice of Black gold."

Imbued by the spirit of the late eccentric Dutch painter/musician Herman Brood, Frank Black donned his decades-old moniker of Black Francis and recorded eleven songs - ten by Black Francis, one a Brood cover - for "Bluefinger." "I privately went back to the old stage name, if that even makes any sense, almost as a joke," explains Black Francis. "I couldn't get the Pixies back into a studio, but I would transform into my alter ego of yesteryear."

All songs on "Bluefinger" directly or indirectly reference Brood who was known as the "Dutch personification of 'sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll'." Brood was a rock musician going back to the 1960s, and he and his band, Herman Brood and His Wild Romance, experienced success in Europe, and even scored a top 40 hit in the U.S.A. in 1979 with "Saturday Night." He was outspoken and in the public eye for decades, in part due to his relationship with the German artist, Nina Hagen. His art has been exhibited at galleries and at the Museum of Groningen in Amsterdam, and he created murals - considered by many to be valuable contributions to Dutch culture and art - in various public spaces around that city. A hard drug user for many years, he swore off most drugs later in his life, but the damage had been done. In 2001, he was told he had only a few months to live, and later that year, committed suicide at age 54 by jumping off the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel.

"John Lennon and Yoko Ono claimed the Amsterdam Hilton in 1969," Francis continues. "The Pixies headlined their first big rock show in Holland in 1988. Herman Brood reclaimed the Hilton for his country in 2001, and now I feel he has even claimed back the Pixies, or at least me, BLACK FRANCIS."

As Black Francis, Boston and Los Angeles-bred Black was one of the architects of modern rock as a front man of the Pixies, whose "loud-quiet-loud" dynamics, primal scream intensity and free-ranging compositional style exerted a huge influence on alternative music. His solo recordings as Frank Black demonstrated his artistic restlessness, embracing alternative pop and avant-garde rock with equal fervor; he continued exploring this territory with a new band, The Catholics, fr several years before journeying to Nashville to create two critically-acclaimed albums with producer Jon Tiven - 2005's "Honeycomb" and the more intense, upbeat "Fastman Raiderman" in 2006.

Interesting that he's getting his old band (no, not that one) back together for these songs, after he had the other group on the European tour. Also interesting that Violet will be performing. Anyone know how pregnant she is now?

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

I assume that availability for an extensive European tour was the reason for the different band.

I'm nearly excited for the ones who will get to see the original Bluefinger line up. And Frank back behind his guitar. Brilliant.
With Violet on board, maybe we'll get to hear a version of "Angels Come To Comfort You".

Black Francis, Bluefinger
Updated 12:30 PDT Mon, Sep 10 2007

Enigmatic singer/songwriter Frank Black has
resurrected his decades-old moniker Black Francis
and announced dates for a West Coast tour in
support of a new release, Bluefinger.
The tour, which features several multi-night
stands, kicks off October 1-2 at Fir Lounge in
Portland, Ore. and runs through the middle of the
month.
Other featured stops are Richard's On
Richards in Vancouver (October 3-4), Café Du
Nord in San Francisco (October 9-11) and Safari
Sam's in Los Angeles (October 15-16).
Tickets for several dates are available through
Ticketmaster.
Black Francis shared the reason for his
rebirth: "I never thought I would go back to the
old name, although I secretly missed it," Francis
said. "I never thought I'd go back to the old band,
although I discovered during a reunion tour four
years later that I missed them too."
Although the Pixies performed a bunch of
dates together, and even went as far as recording
a couple of new songs - one by Kim Deal and
another by Warren Zevon - a full reunion and new
album wasn't in the cards.
"I privately went back to the old stage name,
if that even makes any sense, almost as a joke. I
couldn't get the Pixies back into a studio, but I
would transform into my alter ego of yesteryear."
Not long after, Francis' new manager asked
him for a bonus track for a greatest hits
compilation, Frank Black 93-03, released earlier
this year. While working on the song, the singer
found himself inspired by eccentric Dutch
painter/musican Herman Brood.
"As I prepared for the session, I became
(honestly) gripped by the spirit of Herman Brood,
and my bonus track expanded into an 11 song
record called Bluefinger in just a few days. Thank
you Herman."
All the tracks on Bluefinger, which hits the
streets today, directly or indirectly reference
Brood, who was known as the "Dutch
personification of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll."

Pixies Creative Mastermind 'Black Francis' Returns

Mon, 09/10/2007 - 3:30pm — TicketNews

Bob Grossweiner and Jane Cohen - TicketNews.com

In support of his new solo album, “Bluefinger” to be
released on Sept. 11, Black Francis, formerly known
as Frank Black, will do a 14-concert west coast run
beginning on Monday, Oct. 1, with two nights in
Portland, OR at the Fir Lounge. Black Francis is the
lead singer of the iconic Pixies, and his solo tour will
also include multiple nights in Los Angeles, Vancouver
and San Francisco.

He will be joined on this trek by the group of musicians
who recorded “Bluefinger”: Violet Clark/vocals, Dan
Schmid/bass, and Jason Carter/drums. Black Francis
will play guitar and harmonica and sing.

Imbued by the spirit of the late eccentric Dutch painter/musician Herman Brood, Frank Black
donned his decades-old moniker of Black Francis and recorded 11 songs - 10 by Black
Francis and one a Brood cover. "I privately went back to the old stage name, if that even makes
any sense, almost as a joke," Francis said in a statement. "couldn't get the Pixies back into a
studio, but I would transform into my alter ego of yesteryear."

All songs on “Bluefinger,” which is being released by Cooking Vinyl Records, directly or
indirectly reference Brood who was known as the "Dutch personification of 'sex, drugs and rock

Brood and His Wild Romance, experienced success in Europe and even scored a top 40 hit in

in part due to his relationship with the German artist, Nina Hagen. His art has been exhibited
at galleries and at the Museum of Groningen in Amsterdam, and he created murals -
considered by many to be valuable contributions to Dutch culture and art - in various public
spaces around that city. A hard drug user for many years, he swore off most drugs later in his
life, but the damage had been done. In 2001, he was told he had only a few months to live, and
later that year, committed suicide at age 54 by jumping off the roof of the Amsterdam Hilton
Hotel.

"John Lennon and Yoko Ono claimed the Amsterdam Hilton in 1969," Francis continues. "The
Pixies headlined their first big rock show in Holland in 1988. Herman Brood reclaimed the
Hilton for his country in 2001, and now I feel he has even claimed back the Pixies, or at least
me, Black Francis."

As Black Francis, the Boston and Los Angeles-bred musician was one of the architects of
modern rock as a front man of the Pixies, whose "loud-quiet-loud" dynamics, primal scream
intensity and free-ranging compositional style exerted a huge influence on alternative music.

Once again sporting the moniker

behind his new studio album.

Francis will kick off the West Coast outing, which features multiple night

The singer is touring behind his 13th solo album since debuting as a

original breakup of the Pixies. "Bluefinger," which hits stores tomorrow

band that Francis is employing on the road this fall: vocalist (and Francis'
wife) Violet Clark, bassist Dan Schmid and drummer Jason Carter.

"I privately went back to the old stage name, if that even makes any
sense, almost as a joke," said Francis in a press statement, explaining
the switch back to his original persona. "I couldn't get the Pixies back into
a studio, but I would transform into my alter ego of yesteryear."

Aside from playing dozens of gigs with the reunited Pixies over the last
three years, Francis has toured extensively for more than a decade with
several backing units, the longest lasting being The Catholics, with
whom he recorded five albums in the late '90s and early years of this
decade, the last of which was the 2002 combo of "Black Letter Days" and
"Devil's Workshop."

BLACK FRANCIS DECENDS ON WEST COAST
Writer: Jeremy Goldmeier
News, Published online on 10 Sep 2007

No, he doesn't quite scream with hurricane force anymore, but
Black Francis can still provoke a storm warning or two. Citizens of
the West Coast: be on guard for flash floods of collegiate hipsters,
grizzled alt-rock heads, and big boy-lovin' groupies. Sir Black of
Francis is coming to your region.

The former/current leader of the Pixies has just announced a two-
week, Left Coast-only tour in support of his upcoming release
Bluefinger. The album marks the first time that the man known to his
mother as Charles Michael Kittridge Thompson IV has used the
"Black Francis" moniker since the demise of his old band.

"I privately went back to the old stage name, if that even makes
any sense, almost as a joke," said Francis via a press release. "I
couldn't get the Pixies back into a studio, but I would transform into
my alter ego of yesteryear."

Wait... does that mean the long-rumored Pixies reunion release is
on ice? Sure sounds like it. At any rate, Bluefinger arrives at your
local record shop tomorrow (Sept. 11) on Cooking Vinyl.

Anybody see Eastern Conference Champions? I saw them once when they came down here to Charleston, SC and I thought they were fantastic. I heard they were opening for BF for most of the dates if not all.

Dudes and dudettes I just saw Mr. Thompson last night at Safari Sams, and it was killer!!! It felt like a dream... Me and the Mrs. were front and center. The place seemed dead at first, but as soon as show time as around the corner, the crowd came a-comin. What pissed me off, though, is that as the guitar tech was tinkering with the instruments Francis and Feldman came in thru the side door and just walked thru the crowd. I couldn't do anything because I was squished in the front but wtf? Do people not know what he looks like? I mean the main event was walking in the back and no one did anything. I figured the place would go ape shit, I was!!

Whatever movin on. I did something at the show that I never thought I could do. I actually handed Francis a copy of my cd. I was soooo fucking nervous I almost puked on the stage. The reason being because I would love to open for him on his next tour. And to make sure I got his attention the Nicole (the Mrs.) and I wrapped the cd up like a present and wrote a little note on the front that read like this:

"Para Señor Thompson. De tu supra estrella numero one fan of the decade, in your lifetime ole! LOL"

When the time came to hand it off, I almost didn't do. I started thinking, will he take it or ignore it or just toss it aside or throw it away. Just letting my nerves get the best of me, but I had Nicole jabbing me in the ribs telling me to JUST DO IT!! And then there he was and, sucking up my fears, I reached up and handed him the cd. He looked a little reluctant at first but he took it anyway. What I didn't expect was that he read the message right then and there. And it worked, it got a chuckle out of him, he set it on his amp and went on with the show. And it was AMAZING!!! The audience pissed me off some (they were only there to see if he'll play Where's My Mind and Los Angeles), they weren't familiar with the new album at all and kept pesting him to play something else. Meanwhile Nicole and I were singing along to all the songs off of Bluefinger and actually enjoying the show. One guy actually walked away because he didn't play Los Angeles. He yelled it out, Francis had this look on him that almost said "Yes, we are in Los Angeles. Thank you for reminding me."

He did play two Pixies tunes and a song from the orange album which shut everybody up. And as far as him and the band is concerned they were fantastic. Nicole got some awesome cellphone pix, seeing how we were right in front!! We were so close we got spit on a few times, lol. I didn't know Bluefinger was an opera? But after he explained the songs and what they were about I understood the album and realized we were completely wrong about the meaning of the album. We were thinking it was about how much he loves his wife, and how often. Oh well.

The set kicked ass and that was that. People were screaming for an encore as the roadies were dismantling the stage. Not very bright, not at all. Then after the show I got to meet and chat with Eric Drew Feldmen!!!! That was awesome!! We were bitching about our neighbors and the city we live in. Then we said goodbye and good night and that was that.

I wish I could go tonight in San Diego, I live an hour away. I hope he gets the cd, I really want to open for him. I mean to get free Frank Black Francis shows nightly? How kick ass is that hehe.

And also can I say Bluefinger is more of a symphony then an opera. It reminds me of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. Either way it's a great album and I can't wait for the follow up.

Hey, darksider! I was right next to you and your wife last night. We talked a bit before the show started (heh, before anyone else was even standing there). Yeah, could you believe that no one recognized him as he strolled through the crowd? Weird. Anyhoo, I snapped some pics with my camera, so I'll have to post 'em somewhere in this forum.

What an awesome show! I had a blast. I'm still beaming, in fact. Hey, I hope he likes your CD, btw.

I have a partial set list, but I've got some holes in there. Any help in filling 'em in would be greatly appreciated.
