On the UK iTunes atleast, there are 2 versions of Bluefinger. One with the 11 tracks we know, but another for the same overall price with 2 more songs, 'Virginia Reel' and 'Polly's Into Me.' Virginia Reel is from BF.net, the "sweet Jesus" song that appeared as a minute long clip or whatever. Both songs are over 4:40 long.. i'm gonna get them in a sec. Discuss! |

Please update! Would love to know what these tracks are like. My iTunes has thrown a wheel, so I can't buy anything for another week or so :(

Wow, nice find! I've just downloaded them now. 'Polly's Into Me' doesn't grab me straight away, but it's certainly not a bad song. I like the outro.
'Virginia Reel' is indeed the 'Sweet Jesus' song from bf.net. It's great to finally hear all of it. It's a quirky song with FB sort of just talking through some of it.

Could anybody sum up which FB tracks have been released exclusively on iTunes? I know about "Gimme Danger", the live EP, and now these 2 songs, are there any more?

The two new songs may not be on the US iTunes because BF doesn't get a US release until next week. Hopefully they will show up then.

Could these tracks be the other 2 from what turned out to be the 5 track itunes exclusive EP? As (I haven't checked) I am pretty sure it was mentioned that FB and the band had recorded 7 tracks, but only 5 were released.
I guess it would make sense in terms of them not having surfaced until now.

Oops, having now downloaded the songs it is clear that virginia reel is deffo from the blackfrancis.net website- but polly's into me does sound like it could be from the itunes EP thing. Possibly. God, if only had some youtube link to back up my crazy theories...

I'm loving "Virginia Reel." Not so much into "Polly's Into Me." VR has that great megaphone vocal that FB's done in the past and a healthy dose of Violet (on vocals and, I presume, keys). Feels like a bit of a Pixies vibe to me.
Oh, and "Polly" sounds a bit Bowie.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

As far as I know 10 songs were recorded at Rockhaal: the 5 we know + Lolita, You Can't Break a Heart and Have It, The Rockafeller Skank, History Song, and a new one which is still unreleased.

you need to sign in with itunes to get those tracks? No chance of getting them on an one-off basis like with emusic?

Thanks to the one that sent it to me. "Polly's into me" is just very good. Virginia reel is a new bside classic, up there with jumping beans and man of steel. |

Oh, and "Polly" sounds a bit Bowie.
The "Hoos" near the middle of Polly definately Bowie and my favourite part.
the duplicated "he's a good dog, Eric" lyric reminds me of Talking Heads' Once In A Lifetime's "remove 'move.." phrasing. V.cool. |

Strangely, they reminded me of the Catholics - more precisely "Western Star": "Dancing to the new bolero (ooh-ooh)"...

I can't check the itunes listings from work, does anybody know if these are available in Canada?
Why can't somebody just once release a Canada-exclusive bonus track? At least make these ones available to the entire Commonwealth...

I put it on my Vision:M but you have to burn it to disc then re-upload it to get past the restrictions. |

Haha, it just hit me that Violet's backing vocals on "Virginia Reel" give off a bit of a Klaus Nomi vibe. Totally awesome.

how can I acquire these songs, anybody an idea? Do I have to download iTunes (as a programme?). Cause I only want the tracks, I couldn't find it on the iTunes-website. Maybe it is because my IP-adress is from Holland?

I downloaded them, then burnt them to a CD and re-ripped them so they werent in that crappy apple format, I can't vbelieve you can't edit the tags on purchased music, I know its black francis, but I want it all to go under the frank black name on my mp3 player so I don't have to scan around to find all his songs...I expected these to be the extra tracks on the japanese release, but it seems that that version has the same number of tracks as UK/US for once...damn I wanted nice non crappy compressed versions.
but yup they seem like decent enough songs on a couple of plays. |
