I'll never get "Hermaphroditos."

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

I no longer try to "get" art. I don't meet art half way; it has to do most of the work to reach me, not because I’m worth it but rather simply because I’m lazy.

It would be enlightening to hear Frank explain his motivation regarding "Hermaphroditos". Definitely takes balls to get anywhere near the topic.

haha

I don't know if there's any songs I don't 'get'. There's a few I don't like. Are we talking lyrically, musically or both?

No, I don't know that atheists should be considered as citizens, nor should they be considered patriots. This is one nation under God George Bush snr

According to Tiven some Frank Black songs require you to be an adult before you can appreciate them. Apparently I'm not an adult.

Ha. I missed the humor in Erebus' post the first time around.

Don't know about debaserrr (cue the Pixies song), but when I say I don't get a Frank song, such as "Hermaphroditos," I'm saying I can't enjoy it. (There are plenty of lyrics I don't get, too, but that's for other threads.)

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

I think that FB has very complex lyrics, sometimes with double or triple meanings. I think his lyrics are at times very difficult to "get". I know I certanly don't get certain songs and I am sure there are those I think I get but I don't. I would also guess there's a chance there are some lyrics FB/BF doesn't even get. So I would say that your reaction is very normal.

Yep. Frank's like Nabokov, who is best read with an annotated guide or two propped open for reference.

I'm not sure I entirely "get" Frank, but he certainly got me.

Certain songs I haven't enjoyed very much, but when working out the chords and playing along, it's amazing how much more I appreciate them.

How's this for an off-the-head?

"Dog in the Sand" came out in 2001.

The "Hedwig and the Angry Inch: movie came out that year and had been peaking on stage for a time previous.

Frank appeared on the Hedwig tribute album, singing "Sugar Daddy". Maybe the song was inspired by Hedwig?

Or maybe it's all Jeffrey (with two "f"s) Eugenides' fault. Duh-noh.

: )

I don't get why "Stupid Me" is in the middle of an otherwise perfect album. I can't stand it. I think it's the only Frank Black song that I truly just loathe. It actually makes me angry sometimes.

Stupid Me is probably my favorite song off DITS.

I wouldn't say I dislike 'Stupid Me', but I've always thought it doesn't really fit between 'Robert Onion' and 'Bullet'. I think it would fit better just before 'Robert Onion'.
