Hey,

Kids are baffling sometimes.

My son Colin, now 11, is a big fan of the latest flavor of the day in pop rock music (i.e. Billy Talent, Fall Out Boys and the like). His dad has a more... obscure repertoire and my family has had its share of Frank Black while riding the car or occasionnally in the living room while Mme Czar is out (she is not a fan).

At Colin's birthday party earlier this summer, I had my dad over and we wined and dined. At the end of the meal we start to put music on and Colin decides that he's the DJ since after all it's his birthday. He goes in the living room, I hear him shuffling through the CDs and I suddenly hear the opening beat and chords of Blast Off.

What are you doing I asked. He says well, it's my birthday and I want to hear stuff I like. Frank Black? He said, well yeah, I listen to Dog in the Sand all the time while on the computer. What?!?

Turns out the he and his older sister know much of the lyrics from the whole album and can sing along many. Considering that english is not their first language, I was blown away.

Now they know all the tunes from Bluefinger by heart and I am considering bringing them to the gig when it comes.

Isn't this great?

That is great. Nice to have some fellow fans in the family. You should definintely take them to go see fb/bf. That would make some great family memories.

How old is your daughter? You should add them to the what's the average age of a fb fan thread? lol.

Don't bring them to the gig. They need to babysit my kid, so I can go.

Great story, by the way. You're raising them right.

That is so perfect! As if kids weren't the greatest already, then to have them surprise you like that! My 7 year old son is a little put off with my recent fb adoration to the point where I fear he won't like him.

Good work!

I can kinda relate, my three year old is now obsessed with the song Massif Centrale which I am exremely happy about lol. She's a real computer whizz and managed to open windows media player and wanted to play musical statues, I played her a few tracks from my collection which she was not impressed with. I then pointed out SMYT (which to her delight had a cat on the front lol) she picked number 7, and would not be persuaded to listen to anything else, she now constantly gets onto the computer and finds massif centale, to which she dances her little bum off.

She calls this song cat music lol

But for some strange reason refuses to listen to anything else on the album except for number 7, oh well weird little things they are, just glad she is sharing in my musical taste rather than my partners (prog eek)

Other good track 7s by Frank that she might like:

Song of the Shrimp (Honeycomb)
Headache (TOTY)
How Your Went So Far (BLD)
The Swimmer (DITS)
Your Mouth Into Mine (Bluefinger)

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

Don't forget Jumping Beans.

My daughter has never been too keen on FB. She LOVES Alec Eiffel (or, as she puts it "Little Lifeform"), though.

I just wish I hadn't played Marc Almond in the car. It's a little weird to hear your kid constantly requesting "Mother Fist".

I have been going to see live music since I was 14 (Peter Frampton in 1977) and by far the best show I have been to would be the time I saw Frank Black with my 21 year old daughter in SF last year.

Good stuff!
