I've had the "best of" a while and I prefer the noticeably different second half to the earlier songs. I haven't listened to any of his work other than "Bluefinger", so which albums are a must-have for the sound I prefer? |

You couldn't go wrong by buying every single album the man has ever released.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

"California Bound" is one of my favourites so I'll def get "Black Letter Days" first.
On another note, I can't believe how quickly people have responded to this! |

There isn't a hell of a lot to talk about around here right now. We talked ourselves to death on "Bluefinger" already, and now the European tour is over. I think we're just excited to see that FB 93-03 has created a new fan, and we're more than happy to drag you into the Cult of Frank. Welcome to the forum, POS.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Well thanks, I'll try and keep active with my q's and requests. I have one right now actually: Does Violet Clark sing backing on any other albums besides Bluefinger? She has a good voice. |

Violet sings on 'Fort Wayne'. Not an album, but a song. Their future project and tours are going to be out of this world. I CAN'T RECOMMEND FORT WAYNE HIGHLY ENOUGH. BACK ME UP COASTLINE.

if you prefer the later sound you should definitely check out Honeycomb, although it was too recent to be included in the best of... |

Thank you everyone for your suggestions. Just got "Black Letter Days", and I think it's fantastic. Exceptional songs: "1826", "Jane The Queen Of Love" and of course, "California Bound". It's also good to know this forum is a great place to discuss good music, so thanks again. |

My favourite FB albums, themewise, strange/experimental pop rock = Teenager of the year, rock album (catholics era) = pistolero, acoustic/nashville FB = Honeycomb. I don't think you can really go wrong with any of his albums though to be honest, they all have great songs on them. It depends what style you prefer the second half, Black Letter Days and The Devil's Workshop have probably the best all around mix (both were released the same week).

What's "Fastman Raiderman" like?
Also, a big question here but what tracks would you guys put on a "Frank Black and the Catholics" best of? If you had to pick about 20. |

Hi pos, FM/RM is great. It's a little different if you're only used to Frank's early stuff, but it'll probbaly grow on you, some of the songs are up there as the best of FB.

Interesting. Man of steel has that Neil Young epic feeling like a lot of Catholics songs (especially on pistolero and devil's workshop) but a much more luxurious production. |
