Frank Black played first a few songs solo acoustic
- The Water
- Horrible Day
- I Heard Ramona Sing
- Cactus
- Black Rider

This part was great ! I was wishing he would play
the whole show solo acoustic !

The second part was, as aspected a full band show,
in my opinion and of many others in Nijmegen, this full band show
was quite disappointing. It was much too loud and
Frank just screaming all the time. I will never
understand why people in this forum find this screaming great ?

Frank Black is, in my opinion an excellent solo
artist, playing acoustic guitar or Telecaster.
This sounds so so much better than a noisy
full band show. Frank Black, please think about it...

I disagree completely on the full band part. I thought this show was one of the best i've seen from Frank. The song choice was great and they also did an awesome rendition of Funk Soul Brother, the Fat Boy Slim song. In this song Frank was "doing" the drumkit. Some people looked quite shocked when this happened but i thought it was brilliant. He also did Abstract plain which i thought was a surprise. The Bluefinger songs were also very inspired and the sound was very clear and not too loud.

Thumbs up to this balls-out performance by the big man!

I totally agree. In my opinion it was not too loud. But it was the band that played very bad and uninspired. They are at least average musicians. Compared with the band of the first two solo-tours in the 90īs (or to the Pixies) they seem to be members of a smalltown- highschool-band. FBīs voice is and will ever be unique and wonderfull, his songwriting and his lyrics are genious. But in the course of the show he descended to the niveau of his amateur-band. They destroyed the beautyfull songs in a way that it was hard to make out a difference between each of them. Shortly said: hand out the tabs of the songs to some guys who just bought their instruments, give them some alcohol and let them destroy the songs in a way that even the fabulous FB canīt save them. That was my sad impression. I hope that he will be touring next year through Europe performing his songs in a way they deserve to be performed. nevertheless: FB is always gigantic.

I wasn't at the show, and I don't mean to criticize your opinion, sandy, but I get the sense that Frank Black is aiming for a punk vibe on this tour, as opposed to a perfect sound. So I'm not sure anyone should expect the musicians to be like clockwork. What I'm getting from this tour -- based on YouTube clips and the Paradiso show on fabchannel.com -- is a ton of energy. Everybody is going balls-out, especially Frank. And frankly, I'm loving it.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

I think Frank's attracted a lot of fans over the years that just aren't going to be into what he's doing right now. However, for everyone who said that he couldn't rock anymore.........well, this tour is for you.

I agree.... and I am so fucking glad that Frank has started to rock again.. I liked his other stuff too but it seemed a long time since he played those heavier tunes. I love his new image...

I was there and I loved the show! The band was far from uninspired but yet very energetic and driven. "Average musicians"? Certainly not! A pounding guitar , aggressive bass and a howling Frank.......... It was really rockin'

Of course it would be nice to have heard a pedal steel guitar and some occasional piano, but I was surprised how well (for example) the TOTY songs sounded without all of these extras.

After the Catholics I kind of lost Frank Black ("country" is just not my style) but with Bluefinger, and this gig, I'm back.

There you have it. That's what they're aiming for and by the sound of it they're nailing it. You've been warned.

Absolutely loved the gig, a lot better than Amsterdam (which I enjoyed a lot too). And it was nice to have a few drinks too many with the fine gentlemen in the band afterwards.

on balance, this was the best show I saw... better, dare we say it, than London. Great venue!

Compare the recent guitarist with the great Lyle Workman or the two other guys with Nick Vincent and Eric Drew Feldman! Again - I was very disappointed for the first time.

Charly Normal did good! of course no one can compare to Lyle, who is the best ever, but Charly fitted the bll very well on this tour. great backing vocals too!

I agree. At times he was making up for the lack of the second guitar and he did a grand job. Equal props to Ding and Skippy!!
To learn the songs from scratch, and in Charles' and Jason's case giving up playing their own songs to play Frank's, they're more than worthy and stand shoulder to shoulder alongside the other great musicians who've played live with Charles Thompson over the years. I'd pay to see this line up again.

I was at the gig in Doornroosje and I thought it was amazing, I love his screaming vocals. I just bought bluefinger this weekend as well, what at amazing album, it really is back to the old pixies style, not that he stayed very far away from that... It was a pleasant surprise to discover so many references to Holland and Germany in this album, particularly track 6 which is a homage to some Dutch songwriter, Herman Brood, who killed himself. He starts the song by saying "Mag ik engels spreken?", and also the first words he spoke at the doornroosje gig were if I can recall coorrectly "Mag ik spreek engels?" I'd be interested to know when this song was written as it would be nice to know that I saw him play live in the country which inspired this song when it was written. I hope he comes back and tours again with this band.
