very Loud, very rock. and Frank was being a nutter, comical and energetic, great show.
Wasnt too keen on the sound eng's mixing though.
He did Lolita brilliantly.
Also, Im surprised he didnt kick the guy in the front rows head who relentlessly stuck his camera in Franks face the ENTIRE set. Good on his enthusiam...boo to his pain-in-the-arseness, i am hoping it wasn't anyone from here!
Anyhow...will post some pics and a bit more of a review when i have more time at an internet cafe...gotta head back to amsterdam right now. Will also post a pic of Charles and I, caught him in the street...til then

It could have been me on the front row. I'm that kinda guy. In my opinion such performances deserve to be taped. History is to be writen and re-written.

Amazing show!
This was the 8th time I saw Frank (4 catholics, 3 pixies, and this one) and this was the most exciting one. Musically it was maybe the worst, since it's just plain Punkrock and in no way as sophisticated and layered as a catholics-show or as influential and alternative as a pixies-show. But the last time I saw Dylan his band wasn't as good as the RollingTunder-tour or as The Band either. My point is Frank, like Dylan, has reinvented himself. Only the great artists dear to take riscs again and again.
The band was pumped up and Frank was chatting constantly. I have never hear him talking that much. I looked kinda drunk or high, but I'm not positive. He was just out of his mind enjoying the show and screaming at the top of his lungs. Lying on the floor. A splendid time!
Jokes made: during Cactus he spelled Golden Earring, Shocking Blue, Cuby+Blizzards and Herman Brood instead of Pixies. Introducing Manitoba as the fucking sensetive song and going on and on about being sensetive. Lolita: ''it's not about Lolita but it means much to me''. He also wanted to play Two Reelers but when he asked if people knew the 3 stooges and got a negative reply he said: what no 3 Stooges? Really? I oughta organise a Stooges-festival here at the Imax
Highlights: Lolita Thaloscrasy Dead Man's Curve Ten Percenter (like Franz Ferdinand) Threshold Cactus Calistan

Thanks for the reviews! It must have been special, playing Bluefinger tracks in the Netherlands.

they are not really jokes with a punchline
there was another one, however:
Right before the last three songs (lolita, dead man, robert onion) he said: We've got to go now, it's gonna be a long drive tonight. All the way to....Amsterdam. Yeah that's like 25 kilometers. It's gonna be tough. We're on the road in Holland.
He played 7 Bluefinger songs, isn't that great? Only Test Pilot, Discotheque, Angels and the title track were missing. Guess He will play them another time! I hope Frank will record with these guys in the future , they can really play and I bet there can pull of some other genres than just great punkrock. Come to think of it, they did a great manitoba.

Hi Jop, I was there too (my 8th show too...), haven't seen you. You must've been standing somewhere behind me (I stood practically in Chuck's belly the entire show)
I was hoping we'd get a solo accoustic/full band show, and we did! The accoustic part didn't feel like anything special, but that's probably because I've played those songs myself over a million times before. He played the following songs solo: -Brackish boy, -Cactus, -Holiday song -(I Want To Live On An) Abstract Plain -Calistan -I'll be blue ("ah, I fucked it up" He started with the second verse, and realised it when he started the second verse with "You stared a while..." Then a Spanish/Italian guy requested Abstract plain and Chuck said he'd play it, but only when this guy could help him remember the lyrics) -She took all the money
Full band: -Los Angeles, -Old black dawning, -Thalassocracy, -Freedom rock -Six sixty six (acapella), -Robert onion, -California bound, -Massif centrale, -Manitoba, -Dead man's curve, -Captain Pasty, -Threshold apprehension, -Lolita, -Tight black rubber, -Your mouth into mine -You can't break a heart and have it -Remake/remodel, -Rockafeller skank
Highlights for me were Abstract plain/Calistan (almost forgot how good these songs are), Freedom rock, Dead man's curve (nr. 1 on my wishlist for this show, and they finally played it in the end, and it rocks!), Robert onion, You can't break a heart and have it
Chuck also talked about the major travelling the had to do to get to their next gig (Amsterdam). "It's about 25 kilometres, yes we're on the road man, on the road in Holland!"
After the show the guys from the band were standing outside. I shook their hands and said thanks for having a great time. They all seemed very nice. Hope to see you again sometime, guys! And Jason, your weblog hasn't been updated in ages *hint*

Hello everyone, long time reader, first time poster.
Like most people here I'm constantly trying to convert my heretic friends to the Cult of Frank. I had warmed up three friends with a self-made compilation and much promotalk. This gig was supposed to win them over to our camp for good. So I became a big nervous when I read all the lukewarm reviews from France. Surely Frank wouldn't disappoint me and mess up my entire campaign?
He didn't, the show was brilliant! Rougher than his catholics shows and more energetic than his Pixies shows. He seemed to be in a very chatty mood, making jokes, taking requests, responding to people shouting stuff. The new band works great with his new songs, and they also did well with the older songs. I prefer the catholics songs to be done by the catholics, he didn't do too many though, perhaps he agrees.
My rookie friends enjoyed the show as well, Frank has made some new fans. I've made some poor quality photo's with a phone. I'll post them as soon as I can figure out how. I wasn't the guy waving the camera in Frank's face for the entire show, so don't expect anything spectacular. How Frank could prevent himself from taking that guys camera and smashing it amazes me, I would've applauded.

This is my first post on the forum (I decided to stop lurking) and this was the first time I saw Frank Black live. I thought it was a great show and if I get another chance to see him and the band I will definitely go again!
