Don't want to be redundant with the old "other songwriter as good as Frank" but:

Do you know any other music artist that can stand the comparison with our beloved Frank Black?

I know that's not the right place here, cause we're all fans but I've been thinking hard and I still can't find.

Q's too old.
W don't tour enough.
E is too young.
R is too weird.
T records every five years.
Y only plays in stadium.
U is dead
...

This could be the Frank Black Scale:
Age - Influence - catalogue - touring -

David Bowie: bad on touring, records every five year
Ray Davies: bad on touring, too old
Martin Gore : too gay
Andy Partridge: is he still recording?
Brian Wilson: I love him but he can't jump or shout as frank.
Neil Young: the closest to FB, does he play in Clermont Ferrand or in small club?
Les Claypool: Quite close but a bit too weird, and never tour in Europe.

Bowie bad on touring?!! this is heresy! I've never seen him live yet but all the people I know who had this chance agree on the fact he's terrific on stage. And all the live videos I've seen tend to confirm that.

Oh come on! Martin Gore is not gay! He has been married for years and he has several children.

Yes Partridge is still recording, although it's a bit confindential.

Yeah, Neil Young plays in big venues, but it's the case since the sixties!

Les CLaypool is not weird, he's Les CLaypool.

On Bob Mould's website:
"Mould took a brief break from the music world to get involved with another passion of his, professional wrestling, when he joined WCW as a scriptwriter for a brief period."

Disqualified.

I didn't mean Gore was gay, I've always find Depeche Mode gay.

I don't know Hersh. Maybe. It's a woman though.

Albarn is alright but most of these guys never gave their fans as many awesome shows in US AND Europe as Frank.

being female surely no barrier to awesomeness? ;)

ooh, one thing in favour of Bob Mould (who for me is still the best comparison) is that he will never reform Husker Du

for defo on the bob, but he doesn't get out west very often and it seems he only tours england when he's europeside. what about westerberg? and weller?

quite enjoyed seeing paul westerberg 2 years ago and he played some 'mats songs and seemed genuinely happy with where he is with himself and his career, kinda like frank. not sure what he's up to lately though.

Robert Pollard is one of the only fellers I'd put in the pantheon with Chuck.

Good enough for John and Yoko, man.
