Okay, so let's discuss -- they really are better than the originals, almost to a song, aren't they?
Definitely puts Silver in a nice light. I wonder if the doolittle version suffers from charles wanting to 'make it his'? Anyway, I like both versions, but this demo sounds more natural. |

I too prefer the demos and I also prefer the Breeders version of Silver. Not that the Pixies version isn't great, but the Breeders version just has a different feel to it, it sounds dark yet beautiful.

I'm listening to Glorious now, and it's darker. raw. better (no offence to the original).
Drivin on 9 is perfect. Tanya D sounds great on Limehouse. Sounds like Belly. |

Hearing the demos reminded me of the great compliment Steve Albini paid to Kim about her having a phenomenal personality and being able to translate that personality 100% into her singing voice. I'd love Kim to record something that really showcases her voice. She's probably too modest to try but she'd do well to. Her own songs, or her choice of standards would be even better. I really loved Title TK mostly cos many of the songs were sparser and her voice came through more.
I don't know if the demos are 'better'. I'll play them more than once but I'll still play the album proper more I'm sure.

If anything they're great alternatives to the released album versions. |

i like the demos alot. however, i don't think they're as good as the album versions. production is better on the album and i absolutely love pod. imo the best post pixies release by any member of the band.
all i can say, thank god for polio! brian |

WTF???
This is bizarre, if you don’t mind me saying so. You’re talking about a Breeders album under the forum category ‘General Frank Black Chat’.
(Also, why does this subject gets a better response when its discussed here rather than on the Breeders so-called semi-official website ,noaloha.com?).

Watch out - its the thread police!
I'm truly sorry, I thought this was generally related to Frank Black since it was generated out of a discussion of Silver in another thread. I admit, I wasn't sure if I had filed it in the right place. Forgive me if I have offended your forum sensibilities!
I can't speak to the noaloha site, since I've never really gone on it. Maybe cause Frank Black fans are more serious music fans? Just my biased guess. |

No offence at all, I was surprised that you got away with it. |

Oh, and if you are really interested this topic is on the 'Noaloha' forum. (You should take a look, but it will probably be your one and only visit) |

the house was rebuilt, a condo actually, but insurance only covers so much; replacing music you have accumulated over the years takes some time. i seem to have bad luck with pixies related material getting lost.
and i think the reason that this got a better response on this site is because it was started in direct relation to a popular thread that brought this up. but whateva! thanks for connecting us to these links, langdonboom, i am very appreciative, even if this thread should not exist. |
