Who are the Klaxons?

( I have the song set so it doesn't automatically start playing. By the way, if anyone wants to see my page, I think you can find it by searching for "Robo-trippin" under Find a Friend. )

I think they call it "new rave". I think it's annoying. That's probably where they got their name.

Golden Skans is good, but it's that one, I think it's called "Atlantis to Interzone" that just, I don't know, it's gets on my nerves.

I guess I just don't like the whole rave-ey thing. I can't even listen to Arctic Monkeys' Brianstorm (and a couple other songs off Fav Worst Nightmare, like This House is a Circus) all the way through.

Have you heard the Klaxons live? Very, very, VERY weak! I had the misfortune of hearing their latest track today, a cover of some 90's dance track. Poor.

I guess if you're a teenager and want to feel part of a scene etc, watch Skins and listen to the lame oh so very lame Klaxons.

The Monkey's I don't mind.

I worked at a Klaxons show recently, and they sucked. I had never heard them before, either. Then I downloaded their album and it actually sounds a lot better than they managed to crap out on stage, but regardless the teenyboppers in the front loved them and sang along with every word. So who knows? Like a harder-edge Jesus Jones.

Their sound seems to be cropping up a lot - distored keybords/guitars with a dancey beat - feels like its been coming on since the Strokes. Anyway, my two cents.

You know it, langdon. Their album trax are a world away from how they sound on stage, but to be honest, I don't think that really matters to the teens anyway. NME points their way.
You have to hear their latest effort. It's such a poor effort it's untrue. New Rave! Yeah!

Skins is some teeny bop show about english teenagers partying hard, doing drugs and sex, teenager worries and shit, then going home to mommy and daddy because it's a skool night. Ask Steve, he knows more about it than me.

Correction -- there are two. At least!

And I also will concur about Sgt. Peppers - though I'm not old enough to have been around when it came out, my father and uncle were and it blew some minds with its originality but to my mind it does not really hold up to repeated listens. And I LOVE the Beatles.

Pet Sounds is a lot more listener/singalong friendly compared to Sgt. Peppers.

And I also must say, regrettibly, that Nevermind is starting to sound more and more dated to me, even though Cobain himself decried the production from day one. I listen to Incesticide more than anything else if/when I listen to Nirvana these days (not much).

I re-read the critique by Tijinder Sigh of ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and it is really piss poor. If you are going to slag something off then at least attempt to get your facts right. Pink Floyd were never ‘elite prog musicians’ the only member who was halfway proficient on his instrument was David Gilmour and for this reason they were never ‘Prog’. Before ‘DSOTM’, Pink Floyd were hardly rolling in money and therefore the irony of the song ‘Money’ is non-existent. Also, is it me but I thought that ‘Wish you were Here’ was the Pink Floyd album dedicated to Syd Barrett, not ‘DSOTM’?

The guy clearly doesn’t have a clue what he is on about.

I think the Klaxons are fun. They make me dance.

You shouldn't really be discussing them in an 'overrated classic albums' thread anyway.

You're right. It's not as if the Klaxons could ever write a record that would make any "classic" list.

The Strokes. Who considered "Is This It" to be a classic, other than the guy who's dissing it?

I just meant because they don't even have a classic album, let alone an overrated classic album.

I agree about ‘Nevermind’ it sounds dated and as you get older it looses its appeal very rapidly. Some of the albums named in the article get a bit of unfair stick such as ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ and ‘Stone Roses’ and why is ‘Neon Bible’ considered a classic already?

I also agree with those above that anything by Oasis is way overrated.

Nirvana wasn't happy with Butch Vig's production on "Nevermind"

Even though I've never heard any of it, I'm going to say that Radiohead's OK Computer is over-rated.

I'm also gonna guess that a lot of people, including reviewers, listen to records on drugs, like, say, pot or ecstacy or coke, and that leads them to think that certain records are better than they really are.

Dear Jimmy,

If you're going to say "OK Computer" is over-rated before hearing it, I'm going to say your friend's paintings are over-rated before I look at them.

i'll take it a step further and, before i look at them, say that his friend's paintings are highly derivitave of Robert Rauschenberg and early David Hockney

Joe and I have talked about it a lot, and neither of us like modern art- we don't like pictures that don't show recognizable objects. So he's very uncomfortable with a lot of the pictures on the page, still, I think there's something good about them.

Pink Floyd were indeed not elite prog musicians. Tijinder Sigh doesn't have a clue what he is on about.

That said, I think there were a few Syd references in DSOTM. Look at the lyrics to Brain Damage, which include lines such as "there's someone in my head, but it's not me" and "the band you're in starts playing different tunes".

You could well be right, Roger Waters wrote the lyrics and I am not sure of their meaning viz Syd Barrett
