I have a thought about the bass part in UMass.
It's at 1:03-1:04 into the song. I really like this little part but I haven't
heard it in ANY of the UMass performances from the reunion. It's like she didn't have the
patience to learn to do it that way again although I'm probably way off.
Does anyone else hear it?

I hear it...and I love it! It sounds, er, funky! I've always liked that bass part for some reason.
I can't say I've ever felt anything on the album is 'anti-Kim Deal' though, even if there were tensions between the band at the time. Maybe because most of the stuff was recorded without the rest of the band it sounds different, didn't they all do their parts seperately on Trompe?

Actually I've been listening to a few live versions of U-Mass recently and I can definitely hear that bass part in some of the reunion shows. I still think it sounds better on Trompe though.

Are you referring to the "ah's" after the "now I'm gonna sing the theme to Perry Mason" line? Those "ah's" are the Perry Mason theme, however it's a wrong rendition. I always loved that part.

By the way...what is Kim repeating over and over on DOWN TO THE WELL? I'm not sure if this has been addressed before. It drives me crazy. Is it just nonsense?

I also thought it was "Boom chicka boom" for a while. Then thought it was "Goes, she goes, she goes..".
