or to meet any past or present significant other? I am wondering what interesting stories people have about how they met.

I met my last two girlfriends at restaurants: one I called the restaurant right after leaving (and not having the guts to ask for her phone number in person) and asked if I could speak to the girl Rosaleen who was eating at the bar area.

Recently I called a customer of mine after a chance encounter at a grocery store. Thinking it was fate and that I should ask her out, I called her and found out that she was with her fiance, and was meeting his parents for the first time at that very instant. I wonder how awkward that was for her.

So any good stories?

I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything

After being let go from a job, I completely missed my chance to ask-out this girl I was working with. About a month later i ran into her and she was going out with another one of the guys from the shop.

A year later, I ran into her again. We were talking for ages. I kind of knew the guy from the shop she was going out with, so I asked how he was getting on (that way I would know if she was still seeing him). She started telling me how she dumped him 6 months earlier and that he was an asshole etc. We talked some more, and then I asked her out. She told me that she really wanted to go see “Happy Feet”, I thought “lame movie, but she’s worth it” So she gave me her phone number, and I text her on mine. It was a Thursday, and I was going to meet her on Sunday. She was going to ring me before then and we would organise a time to meet up.

Didn’t hear anything from here on Friday, nothing Saturday, nothing Sunday.
On the Tuesday after that, I sent her a text to find out if everything was ok with her.
She replied back:
“My boyfriend didn‘t want me to go because it sounded like a date”

When she told me she broke up with her old boyfriend, she failed to mention the new one. Even when I was asking her out! Or else she just changed her mind and thought it would be just better to pretend nothing ever happened .

pm me for a date

Perhaps try legal girls from now on.

I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

She was was a 22 year old Jehovah’s witness who loved House Of Pain, and had a massive crucifix tattooed in a very nice place

explain 'massive' and 'nice place'?

The waxworks were an immensely eloquent dissertation on the wonderful ordinariness of mankind.

Lower back, and beyond!

When someone hands in a roll of film to get developed, I have to take down some of their details, including their phone number. There are always those flirtatious ladies that make me think “should I give her a call?” But I never do because I would think that it would be a bit creepy.

I got nothing, Sean. I had something written up about horses living well into their 30s but not usually being branded with crucifixes, but that's just dumb. Truth is, it sounds like she wasn't worth dating and you got off relatively easy this time.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

Former (and first) boyfriend was my, um, 30something tutor when I was, um, 17something. Yeah.

I kinda almost cringe thinking about that now that I'm well past 30something.

You know those people who jump in front of you on the street trying to get you to donate money and sign up for charities and shit?

So I’m passing one of those people twice a day, four days in a row. She tries to get me to stop each time but I tell her I’m in a rush, etc. She started to recognise me on the street, and petty witty banter would ensue as we passed each other.
So one day I did stop. And we chatted for about 20 minutes. We got on really well. And I signed up to save the children.
She had my mobile number, and she had to ring me later in the day to confirm a few details. That conversation was a little less exciting.
I saw her a few times around town after that. But we just exchanged smiles and nods.
I think she’s gone back to New Zealand by now.

“What would you do for the girl??”
Apparently I’d sign up for €12 a month (I‘m going to let the first payment go through. After that I‘ll unsubscribe. Sorry kids)

I met my gal at the pool at the apartment complex where we both lived. We chatted it up for many hours that day and I was totally smitten. She told me that day that she was moving out of the apartment complex in one month. She also told me that she had just broken up with a guy that she was engaged to.

when we parted ways that day I gave her my number but did not get hers. I thought that was a gentleman thing to do - trying to not be pushy, etc. I realized shortly after that I had made a huge mistake because with her just coming off this big break-up, she wasn't going to be in the frame of mind to call some dude that she just met at the pool. And sure enough - she didn't call. I kept thinking about her and thinking about her - she was quite the cutey. I'd let her slip through my fingers.

So approx one month later I called the apartment complex and told the girl there my story. I told her that this girl really wants to call me she just doesn't know it yet. I said "I understand that you can't give me her number. But there can't be that many "Liz"'s moving out this weekend. Maybe you can find her file get her number and call her for me!! - ask her to call me"

This was totally out of character for me to do anything like this. But this girl was CUTE. I couldn't let her go the way of Charlie Brown's little red haired girl. So anyways - the girl at the apartment complex called her for me - Liz was flattered and she called me approx 1/2 hour later.

That was over 5 years ago and we're still together!!! So I took a little chance and showed a little gumption for the first time in my life - and it paid off!!! let that be a lesson for you boys!!

congratulations houston. that's a great story of perseverance.

the giving your number instead of getting her number is certain death. if a girl ever says "why don't you give me your number" that's another way of saying no thanks. the other lesson to be learned here is always get their number.

and, sometimes stalking pays off

Stalking certainly does pay off..

When I started college I started noticing this girl around the place. My obsession with her was well documented among my friends, and I affectively called her 'my girlfriend', despite the fact she had never even made eye contact with me. I found out she had a boyfriend in uni in Wales, which is the reason I gave to everyone and myself for never approaching her, but the real reason is that I'm a shy sonuvabitch and I thought she was well out of my league.

Half a year elapsed. One day I randomly decided to add her to msn after finding her e-mail in a myspace blog. I impressed her with my wit and intelligence, and we agreed that we must speak the next time we saw each other in college.

Cue some of the most awkward meetings ever. A whole week of them. We basically hung around each other in every available free lesson straight from the off, but it was so difficult for a short while.

Anyway, basically, just a week after I spoke to her for the very first time I found myself in a strange town with her after proposing that we take a spontaneous journey on the first random bus we find. I stayed in a hotel with her that night, and she broke up with her boyfriend in Wales a couple of days later.

Four months and counting...

I met my wife working at a restaurant in 1994. I cut my hand open washing dishes on the graveyard shift, and she took me to the E.R. to get stitched up (she was a waitress at the same restaurant). We've been together since that night. I wish I could say my wound was a brave one -- that I had put myself on the line to save a lady or some such shit -- but the truth is that I was just a moron playing with broken glass. But hey, I got the girl.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

You guys all have balls of steel, I would never do some of the stuff listed, thats not to say I wouldn't like to though. My stories are all boring, met my current cos she asked me to model for her about 9months ago and even though she didn't use me I saw her around. Easy. And my last girlfriend: a few years back a friend 'fancied' a girl in a club so I asked my ex to go put in a good word, she comes back and tells us the girl has a boyfriend but her friend likes me, the girl who liked me I then went out with for 2 years, oops. Again easy. Damn I need to take more risks!
