Heh, I've just noticed someone has actually commented on youtube about the similarity. I hope they know who came first...

Heard Bloc Party's Hunting For Witches on the radio earlier, the main riff is very like the wonderful Randy Rhodes riff in Ozzy's Crazy Train!

Oh yeah, the opening riff to Crazy Train and the Eurythmics song Sweet Dreams have their similarities
Summer Babe by Pavement, Brimful of Asha by Cornershop and Drugs by Ammonia all echo each other somewhat.

"Fitzgerald" by FB sounds like The Cars's "You Might Think".
Also, the beginning of that song "Torn" ( which I can't stand, by the way ) by Natalie Imbrugliara or whatever, sounds like Hootie & the Blowfish's "I Only Wanna Be With You"b ( which I also don't like ).

And don't forget Pavement's Loretta's Scars, with it's Debaserish chord progression!

"The Skin of My Yellow Country Teeth" by Clap Your Hands Say Yeah sounds kinda like "Age of Consent" by New Order. Well, the bassline at least.
It's 1969, okay. |

Why did we have to start another thread called "Songs that sound like other songs"? What the hell was wrong with the old one? Kathryn, are you really so vain that you have to display your discovery of a song that sounds like another song on the very top of a shiny new thread, whereupon it is readily seen by your fellow forum assayers, with no regards to the fact that there already was a thread where you could post such a discovery?
The old thread was awesome - one of the best threads of all time - and I was proud of my contributions to it. But Feces (my new nickname for Kathryn) decided that she wanted her own thread for this subject matter, so she created one, single-handedly rendering the old thread obsolete, never to be read again. I'm so depressed. The human race is an incorrigible disgrace. I think I'll go smoke some PCP-soaked cigarettes and kill myself via the most violent suicide method I can think of. Good bye world.
(By the way, I meant this post as a joke. I thought it would be funny [in an out-of-character way] to completely overreact to something trivial. In actuality, I think very highly of Kathryn. Also, my contributions to the old thread weren't all that ingenious.) |

The funniest thing is that TarTar posted the exact same songs in both threads.
It's not the first time kathryn (or, should I say, Feces) does that... I started a Baker's Dozen Part Trois thread, and instead of segueing in the same thread she made a new Baker's Dozen Part 4 one. Now her thread is 65 pages long and mine got locked after 21 posts. I suffered severe depression because of it. I'm tempted to make a new Mayonnaise thread just to ruin hers.

Frank-related ones.
The verses of Frank's "I Switched You" sound like "Good Thing" by the Fine Young Cannibals. The chorus of David Bowie's "I'm Afraid of Americans" has always reminded me of the chorus of Frank's "Los Angeles". Also David Bowie's "Little Wonder" reminds me of "Alec Eiffel". Mark Prindle noticed that the melody of Frank's "Jaina Blues" sounds a lot like "Shambala" by Three Dog Night. |

The chord progression in "Together" by the Raconteurs reminds me of "The Silvery Light of a Dream Pt. 2" by the Apples in Stereo.
It's 1969, okay. |

"Held the Hand" by Daniel Johnston sounds a lot like "A Day in the Life" by the Beatles. No surprise considering that Daniel is a huge Beatles fan. |

Come Alive from the new Foo Fighters album sounds a lot like Hoover Dam by Sugar. |

I think this has already been mentioned, but "Captain Pasty" is essentially "I Want Rock 'n' Roll" with the scream from "Hate Me" at the beginning.

Frank related that I heard last week, a few snippets from the first track of Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother sound awfully similar to End of the Summer.
But the reason I searched out this thread was my insane realization that part of the melody for the theme from Rocky ("Gonna Fly Now...") is the same as Little Wing as performed by Jimi Hendrix.
I know, you're saying, "yeah fuck off" but if you hum Little Wing from the second line of the first verse...the first line is "Well she´s walking"

I was at work one day last year, walking through the bakery downstairs to get something out of the walk-in fridge. The radio was ona dn I heard a song that had the exact same melody of FB's "End of the Summer". Maybe that Pink Floyd song was what I heard.
