So for work I have to buy a car, and pretty soon (car allowance stuff)... Any suggestions? Been looking at Clios, Fiestas, Golfs, 306s, all 2nd hand. Then I thought why have one of those standard first cars, when I could get...

A VW Clipper! Now it may be due to the lovely sunny days we've been having recently, but heck, I'd look pretty ace turning up to work in that baby! The only way I'd look any better is if Christina Ricci was sat alongside me. Vintage.

Get it!
Then try and sell it next week when we're all two feet deep in rain, again.

oh yeah, me like. any vdub mark 1 or 2 soft top. I used to have a citreon ax gt until I crashed (a whole new thread) it. forget the clios and fiestas. i'm waiting for the day i can buy myself a split screen camper van. vintage is always the way to go.

it only seemed like yesterday that we were all driving around in old skool 205's. now they were quick. but not as fast as my black GT.

Was going to give some serious advice then, but realised its a joke topic so I wont. Its amazing how much you learn about cars working for a car company....

Malax! It's no joke! I'm really trying to buy a car, any advice would be fantastic! Looking at VW Golfs or Polos mostly now, the vintage VW was just a pipedream, I'm back on planet Earth now!

I had an '89 GOLF I bought from a pal in 1999. I had it almost 6 years. Was a very good, reliable car. I finally sold it once the odometer rolled to 300,000 miles...was still running well! Wouldn't have made a long distance drive, but I kept the oil changed, fluids checked, tires rotated...blah blah blah. Of course it was looking pretty beat, but I never had any major problems with it. Biggest was water pump...went out one time. Pfffft. No complaints. GOLF's are good.

Honda. My first car. Sold it at 315,000 miles and it was still running like a champ. Never heard a bad thing about them. I miss that car...

i'm actually kind of thinking about getting a Golf. though i'd probably get a GTI. i don't really like the new 2007 design as much though. i'd get a 2006 or older.

but then i also kind of want to get a 911. i'm torn

Hyundai, I have an aversion to them because my friend had a
(rusty shitbox) Pony, but that shouldn't stop you.

Cars I want:

New cars:
Mini Cooper
Honda Civic Hatchback (Not available in North America)
Acura RSX (no longer in production)
Honda Insight (no longer in production)
Rabbit/Golf Diesel (no diesel in NA this year)

Newer than new:
Obvio (just want to see it really)

Cars of yore:
(vintage) <Rover> Mini Cooper
Karmann Ghia
Nissan Figaro (would consider a Micra if they had them in NA)

Biggest complaints:
Mini Canada are morons.
Honda Civic Coupe, only Europeans want hatchbacks? You stupid f...s
Honda Insight, never sold automatic in Canada, "reciprocal warranty
agreement" with Honda USA makes cross-boarder shopping prohibitive.
Scion, Toyota, a company that doesn't want to sell cars?
Just something else not available in Canada.
Toyota Yaris, drives like a 1980 Oldsmobile, give us a sport suspension.

I think it is beautiful too. If I had that I would never drive it. I would be afraid someone would hit it then I would have to kick some butt.

I don't know how gas prices are in other countries but here in America it is really beginning to get ridiculous. I would recommend getting a car that does not suck gas. I wish I lived close enough to every place I need to go to ride a bike. Stay in shape, save money and save the environment.

around 5.66 usd/gallon here. on the other hand an average car in use here consumes less fuel per travelled distance than in the US, so that makes it a bit easier on the wallet than it might seem

The British gallon (4.55 litres) is bigger than the
US gallon (3.79 liters), which causes much undo anxiety.

There is no version of the Polo in Canada either,
but we can have a bigger Dodge every year.
