Tapes n' Tapes are playing in Nashville tonight, and it's going to be awesome. All my friends are lame, so I'll be going to the show by myself, which will make it a long drive.

Do you guys go to shows alone? Can you give me some insights on this, so I won't feel so strange?

Is anyone else going to this show?

I'll be by the pool, playing with my guns.

It's no big deal - just make the most of the fact that you don't have to put up with anyone else, no waiting for them while they're at the bar, or making sure they're with you when you're barging through the crowd.

Alternatively, make some new friends.

It's always fun to share the experience with someone else, but concerts can be just as much fun by yourself. I saw the Frogs by myself a few years ago and it was a blast. Flew out to New York City to see Cracker/Camper by myself as well, and it was worth every penny. Damn, I saw Primus and Fleetwood Mac in Vegas one weekend, too. I guess I've seen more shows by myself than I thought I had. Didn't bother me in the least, though. The music was just as awesome.

Funny cigarettes, eh? Not a bad idea for such a long drive by oneself. I'm distancing myself from the grass these days. But you've given me the idea to smoke my tobacco pipe the whole way down there, while I'm there, and when I drive back. That's a lot of tobacco.

Going to gigs alone is great. You don't have to worry whether your friends are enjoying it or not. Plus you can make an ass of yourself in the mosh pit without anyone telling about it afterwards.
Try going to the movies alone too. I went to see Land of the Dead alone, in a nearly empty theatre, at the 11am screening. Mrs Denis would've hated the movie but I loved it. Plus you get all the popcorn for yourself.

Yeah, it's kind of exciting at a festival or outdoor concert when you get separated from your friends!

I love going to shows alone, it's easier to focus on the performance when you don't have all your drunk friends competing for the attention. It's easy to think some of my most memorable shows are on that list in large part because I was there on my own.

Nothing is ever something.

I have honestly seen more than 90% of my shows alone. My friends never go out to shows anymore. In fact, i was at a show last weekend with a friend, and thought it was sort of a drag. Not that he wasn't good company, he was. It was just that i had to check in every few minutes to gauge his reaction (i had brought him to see the great, polarizing Reid Paley) and i hate doing that. The best part though was talking before/in between acts. That was a nice surprise.

That being said, i've also met some cool people at shows that i've gone to by myself - i still email some guys i met at a show almost 7 years ago actually.

Shit. I forgot the best concert I've ever seen alone: April 13th, 2004: Pixies @ The Fine Line. How can you NOT enjoy that?

I have never been to a gig on my own before (though I have seen bands on my own at festivals), but Tapes n Tapes were excellent when I saw them earlier this year.

I got to gigs 80% of the time alone . It's fun to hang out after show with friends and have a beer but I enjoy being alone too, you can go where ever you want without to wait for them, there's nobody to ruin the show with bad comments, you can sing along without feeling stupid.
The only advice, don't go to the show too early, you could get bored waiting alone.

I only recently started going places/gigs on my own.
I love it, for most of the already stated reasons.

There are a couple things that suck as a girl though.
Like who's going to walk me to my car which is all the way down that dark back alley. And never leaving your drink out of your sight lest some freak fills it with roofies etc.

I know someone who knows a man who got slipped a roofie. He was raped and developed anal warts. Terrible.

The show was awesome, by the way. I think I'm too old to go to shows on works nights anymore. I hate saying that. But it was great. The band was tight, and they rocked.

Going alone was great. I met a few people, including a friend of the band's who was selling merchandise. We had a lot in common.
