C'était dans l'air depuis un moment (voir notre post du 8 août 2006), ce sera officialisé la semaine prochaine par un article de NME : Charles Thompson, alias Frank Black, alias Black Francis, va s'installer en France avec femme et enfants, au terme de sa prochaine tournée européenne. Mieux encore, il projetterait de demander la nationalité française. Explication de l'intéressé, actuellement en tournée en Australie avec les Pixies : «Sur le plan humain, culturel et - si j'ose dire - spirituel, je me suis toujours senti proche de la France. (...) Il y a encore trois, quatre ans je n'aurais jamais osé sauter le pas, mais ma deuxième femme m'a convaincu. Violet est francophile comme moi, et son fils aîné, qui fréquente une école française à Portland, est parfaitement bilingue. Finalement, cette décision s'est imposée très naturellement.»
Après avoir visité quelques maisons dans le Massif Central, l'artiste a finalement fait son choix : il s'établira à Wattignies, près de Lille, où il vient d'acheter une villa.
Un choix qui peut surprendre mais qui découle d'une certaine logique : «Lille n'est pas très loin du Luxembourg, où je viens de fonder un groupe d'euro-rock [Grand Duchy], ni des Pays-Bas, pays d'Herman Brood, auquel je rends hommage sur mon prochain album, Bluefinger. Et puis (rires)... je dois dire que le climat lillois est assez similaire à celui de l'Alaska, où je rêvais de vivre quand j'étais gamin.»

I live in Soignies, Belgium. That's a half hour drive from Lille. We will almost be neighbours! I think I will be going to Lille more often now. |

great news! Grand Duchy is from Luxembourgh, nice. It's the first mention of Bluefinger/Brood and Grand Duchy in the press. Where did you got this from?

The line about the weather is strange.
But he allready went from LA to Portland.
Next step: Patagonia!
It's probably an april fool and it's funnier than "the back of the sicilan".
Personaly I think Lille has very friendly inhabitants (much more friendly than the rest of France, that's not a secret) and a nice center, but the weather and the lands around are quite grey and depressing.
Juste mon opinion. Mais bon c est toujours mieux que la cote d azur! |
