At last!

http://www.myspace.com/tomahawkofficial

Some time ago, Patton said about it: "It’s going to be completely different. We’re doing a bunch of public-domain Native American folk tunes that Duane [Denison], the guitar player, arranged for a four-piece rock band. I think it’s exactly where we need to go: we need to take a detour, and this is gonna be a nice, colorful one. It’s going to be a very quiet record—very moody, very layered, lots of percussion. It won’t sound like Tomahawk."

yummy!

I should check out these guys. Denison's work in Jesus Lizard was great.

Word on the street web is that Kevin Rutmanis was fired. No bass player listed on the MySpace page.

maybe they'll engage Trevor Dunn instead, as someone suggested on the MP forum

I recently saw this group that boasts the Tomahawk drummer as a member. They are called BATTLES and they are amazing:

I've read a few different interviews with Patton over the past year and the new album is described exactly as cassandra is's quote. Rutmanis had a myspace page for a bit (I think it's disabled now) where he was selling paintings. He stated on there that he had been fired from the Melvins AND Tomahawk. Shame, he's a good bass player. I like the Tomahawk albums but live they are ten times better. Can't wait for the tour. Just gotta wait for this Peeping Tom shit to be over with.

And yes, Denison is amazing. One of my top five favorite players I would say.

perhaps Peeping Tom should have been the April's Fool joke.

I agree.

Wiki says "The band's third album, Anonymous, will be released on June 19th 2007 through Ipecac Recordings. Mike Patton had previously said in a November 2006 interview that the band finished recording the new album, and an unknown 2007 release date was set."
So thats promising.

I guess it's sure now that it's not a joke at all: new bio on the myspace page with details about the album:

"Tomahawk Anonymous Tomahawk’s third release, Anonymous, links the outfit with the Native American culture that bore its name. A thirteen-track album that reverentially explores and reinterprets the darker, more recessed ancestral music created by North America’s indigenous people, the title reflects the countless individuals who contributed to these songs but went un-credited throughout history. At the turn of the millennium, Duane Denison (U.S.S.A, ex-Jesus Lizard) toured with Hank Williams III, frequently finding himself on Indian Reservations. “I was somewhat disappointed by the Native bands.” Duane explains, “They were usually very conventional, kind of blues and country type stuff, or too much like 'new age' music. I figured there must be native music somewhere that was more aggressive, spookier, and more kinetic.” Duane began to research the culture’s music; about a year into his research he found books that were written around the time of Teddy Roosevelt’s presidency, a period in U.S. history when Indian culture and artifacts were in vogue. The books, dated to the early 20th century, recorded transcriptions of the songs contained herein. The titles: “Totem,” “Mescal Rite 1,” “Song of Victory” are all true to the names uncovered by the people who originally transcribed them, although Duane says “Red Fox” was altered to be more accessible. One song, “Long, Long Weary Day,” is a non-Native American “parlor song” song of the same time period, and also un-credited. Now a three piece, Tomahawk recorded Anonymous in two-parts. Duane Denison and John Stanier (Battles, Ex-Helmet) recorded guitars and drums (respectively) in Nashville while Mike Patton (Peeping Tom, Fantômas, Ex-Faith No More) added vocals and samples at Vulcan Studios in San Francisco. Release date: June 19, 2007"

thanks for the link whitefrancis

I've just listened quickly in random mode to some of the songs, and it's very surprising, very different from the first albums. I can't make a definitive judgment or review before I buy the album properly, but I'm not sure I'm gonna like it as much as the previous ones.
