hey there
i gotta say i am floored.
Seeing the pixies live just blew me away, it is so doffrerent to seeing them on a dvd.
But this was different my friends. Not your standard re-union performance. This was much more aggressive, louder, abrasive, distorted than any of there other re-union performances that i have seen. Kinda reminded me of that brixton gig in 1991. Very fast very brutal and passionate.
SInce they have returned i have loved every performance, but they have sounded a bit quiter and more mellow sound than in the past but last nite that fuckin rocked man and frank was screaming his ass off. He was strutting around more like black francis than frank black. U had to be there to know what i mean.
It was a real treat that they played number 13 baby, head on and planet of sound. I didnt expect those.
They started off with heaven and slo wave
Then frank strapped on the tele and they played bone machine and it was like a fuckin bomb went off. So exciting........

Oh boy oh boy oh boy. I'm seeing them tomorrow in Sydney (and at V the day after). I'm a 37 yr old Pixies diehard and I haven't seen them since the early 90s. I can quite happily say this equates to the days I got my first bike and my first shag (they were separated by a few years!)

Yeah I got some film, I was right in front of Frank. I filmed hey, WIMM and Vamos, which was ace. Got Joey perfect but the sound recording was rubbish. Anyhoo.
Wednesday night FUCKIN ROCKED
I saw them at Leeds on 05, but this was in a different class. Pixies in a club.
Quality.
If anyone has the setlist I would love to be reminded of the order.
Roll on next week.
Maybe they play some stuff off BN next week. Would love to hear Hangwire, Is She Wierd, etc. |

I think most if not all of the reunion gigs have been like this, they just sound mellower for some reason on the disclive recordings. All the shows I saw (5 total) were kick ass and aggressive like you described.
Quite a show, eh?!

Looks like they're playing the same set at all shows! - minus a few for the shorter festival set. The Luna Park set was identical to The Palace but I also had Isla de Encanta after Something Against You, which was the highlight for me coming straight after Crackity Jones. The Sydney show was intense, so impressed with how tight they were and Charles' voice - he was back to full screams on Vamos where on the reunion recordings I've heard he just yelps. Kim seemed blown away by the crowd, just grinning and shaking her head, makes me think back to scene in loudQUIETloud where she's trying to come to grips with the reactions, I think we've made it clear just how loved they are here and they'll be wondering how they never made it down in the early days... awesome!

I was there at Sydney.....without a doubt the best show ive ever seen. Wasnt anticipating the moshing, was about 5m from the stage and had to go into self-preservation mode, but geez it was incredible. Band was tight, frank was cool as a cucumber as always, he would just nod furiously in reaction to the crowds adulation, kim just looked to be having a whale of a time, joey looked scared as always and dave just looked evil with his beard. Highlights? So many. Franks scream in Isla de Encanta. Phenomenal. For some reason mr grieves inspired the most moshing in the crowd. But really that section of the fast songs: isla crackity something against you etc etc was just incredible i was actually praying for a restrained number so i could get some respite!
Will be weird seeing them in melb on wednesday as its a seated gig.....5th row cant beat that! Im sure we'll be out of our seats mmost of the time anyway. |

I was at both Sydney shows and have tickets for Adelaide and Melbourne. Starting to wonder if we're going to get the same setlist at every gig? Don't get me wrong, I am absolutely blown away that I even have the chance to see the Pixies 4x but I would love to get a few different songs each time.

Ha Ha, I noticed that Kim & Charles' throats got sore at the three shows I saw, so they had to get Dave to sing the encore! I think I even spied Myles at the big top.
Great shows, I saw the two sydney gigs and gold coast one, almost identical sets, I think the sydney v fest show was the best performance, though I was in the second row at the big top gig which was great.
One guy at the V festival tapped me on the shoulder before they started and said 'what are these pixies like?' and I said, 'do yourself a favour - don't miss it!'
I felt vindicated with all these kids singing along, after years of blank stares when talking about the pixies!

Rock Palace to roll over
Ben Butler May 25, 2007 12:00am
THE St Kilda nightclub the Palace has given up its fight against eviction. It will shut next month, clearing the way for a redevelopment of the St Kilda triangle.
The $300 million redevelopment is on prime foreshore crown land.
The 1880-capacity club has played host to rock 'n' rollers, including grunge superstars Nirvana, pint-size pop star Prince, Moby and alternative rock legends the Pixies, as well as hosting popular weekly club night Twister.
Yesterday, Palace spokesman Alan Evers-Buckland said a proposed High Court challenge had been abandoned on legal advice.
"The bottom line is, our prospects weren't good," he said.
The club's leaseholder, Bradto, fought the State Government's bid to evict it in a multi-million-dollar legal stoush that stretched from the Planning Tribunal to the Court of Appeal, over two years.
"It's the end of the road for us. We put all of our resources into it. It's basically time for the venue to close," Mr Evers-Buckland said.
"We've said goodbye to a playground and we're putting a shopping centre by the beach. Where's the St Kilda in that? It's a shame."
He said no deal had been done with the State Government.
Bradto's legal costs were about $2.5 million and it must also pay the Government's legal costs.
The venue's next big rock shows, two gigs from US indie outfit the Shins in August, will be moved.
"It's going to proceed -- where it's going to be, at the moment I couldn't tell you," promoter Dave Chatfield of Handsome Tours said.
Opposition Leader Ted Baillieu questioned the probity of the tender process.
However Planning Minister Justin Madden's office said the tender had been checked by independent probity auditors.
He said the Government welcomed the decision and hoped that a lease dispute with the Palais Theatre, next door to the Palace, would be resolved soon.
The Palace plans two final shows, on June 1 and 3. It will close June 12.

Legendary Melbourne venue goes up in flames The Palace played host to the likes of Nirvana and Arctic Monkeys 6 hours ago
Fire crews have now brought a blaze at legendary Melbourne live venue The Palace under control, after a fire broke out in the building around 3pm AEST today (July 11).
The complex - which was closed despite fierce protest from fans mid-last month to make way for developers - has stood on the St Kilda beachfront for 35 years, and proved a popular haunt for thousands of artists. Everyone from Nirvana, Iggy Pop,Pixies and Foo Fighters to Kasabian, Arctic Monkeys and Franz Ferdinand have graced its stage.
Police are yet to say whether there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the fire. The historic art deco Palais Theatre and fun-ground Luna Park, which border The Palace, were unaffected.
According to an update on Theage.com.au, the iconic club is now likely to face demolition, scuttling council plans to keep it operating as a live music venue for another year despite recent graffiti and other vandalism. |

if you've got winamp you can get a plug-in to play flac files. just go to winamp's site and do a search and there should be a plug-in that you just download and install.
if you wanna play on your stereo myou gotta convert to wav and burn as an audio cd. dBPoweramp is a very good converter...do a search for that....
