Does anyone here own one? If so, what's it like? Does your world suddenly become a paradise? Or are these microphones overpriced and nothing special? |

Those mics are good, but overpriced? Depends on how much money you have. I like the 140's better myself. |

Well, if you had one and recorded something in your bedroom, it would still sound like shit. The great sounds that good recording studios get out of mics like that (which they can afford) are way more due to the acoustics of the space than the mic. In fact, unless you have other pro equipment and soundproofing, I've found that these type of mics make things worse because they point out the other flaws in your recording setup. It'll pick up footsteps on a carpet from another room, or a car driving by on a street a 100 yards away. Then what do you do?
Plenty of other good, cheap mics out there...

Thanks, Jefrey. I always value your input on matters like these because you know way more about sound recording technology than I do.
The "Palace of the Brine" on the Pixies tribute is pretty high quality sounding stuff. From what I remember, at least. I haven't listened to that disc in over 3 years. |
