Hey all
Im just here to say that i think frank has the most engaging voic in music. It is so varied.....
cool, exciting, atmposheric, sad, cute, funny
As great as his music is i reallyt his voice sets him along apart from his peers.
he just locks you in. Means everything that he sings
so powerful. If u ever feel lonely just wack frank on, you are slightly cured
also i think 'hang on to your ego' is one of the greatest vocal recordings ever
cheers

What about the voice of Geddy Lee? How did it get so high? I wonder if he speaks like an ordinary guy?

I've just been listening to Run, Mother Popcorn, Break My Body and Coastline and Frank Black's voice is a fix, and apart from being a mighty fine vocal performance, Hang on to your Ego is one of the quintessential Frank songs that never made an official best of. It's just too good to be heard by the uneducated mass. Brian Wilson subconciously wrote it for Frank. Genius to genius. Frank be the greater. |

Frank actually wrote it, went back in time and taught it to Brian Wilson, Brian Wilson claimed to write it, then Frank Black 'covered' it, when it's actually his song all along. He's just fucking with us by using the old time travelling song-covering technique. Can't believe you fell for that one, fbc.

That "YOU'RE" is my favourite word sung ever I think and possibly what made me get that album in the first place. |

My favorite Frank vocal performances on record are probably the "Men in Black" b-sides. "Pray a Little Faster", "You Never Heard of Me", and "Announcement". Frank is hoarse on them, but he still, to my ears, gives the songs all he's got.
Those particular b-sides are really great recordings, in general, I think. They sound more raw to me than anything I can think of actually released under the Catholics name. They sound unpolished, un-fussed with, and banged together in a short time, but on those recordings I can totally SEE a band playing a room and see Frank's face as he sings. |
