I haven't found any thread about her so I'm starting a new one. It seems M.I.A. is planning to have a new record out this year and I can't wait to hear it. Arular was fucking excellent if you ask me, and she posted last month a new single called "Bird Flu" on her myspace page that blows my mind. It samples chickens, what more could you ask for?
I thought Arular was decent, but nothing I'll regret not buying. She's got a cool vocal style and some trippy beats, but I can live with only hearing the odd track here and there.
At the time it came out it seemed to me that much of the hype was based on her personal background rather than the music, but soon enough people decided the songs really were that good too. I just don't happen to agree - some of them are catchy as fly paper, but she'll have to do more to snag my $$$.
