Yesterday the old man accidentally but thoroughly soaked the iPod. No sign of life to it at all. Today it started to work again. That's one cool thing.

ipods suck. I got me a portable grammarphone attached to my back with thick chains and manacles. And a record sachel made from tough ripstop fabrics.

I have to send my iPod in for service... I was reading the support page http://www.apple.com/ca/support/service/terms/index.html?serialNumber=8L6431B2V9K when I came upon this;
Apple reserves the right to refuse service on products that have serial numbers altered, defaced or removed or that are damaged due to accident, abuse, neglect, misuse (including faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other than Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider), unauthorized modification, extreme environment (including extreme temperature or humidity), extreme physical or electrical stress or interference, fluctuation or surges of electrical power, lightning, static electricity, fire, acts of God or other external causes.
I guess that covers all the bases then...

has anyone had a chance to try one of these yet? storage isn't the greatest, the size seems ok for outside stuff like running and cycling, but i'm also interested in any sonic comparison to an ipod.

Apple's got me by the balls, I swear. In addition to my iPod dying earlier this year, and my believing I need to spend another $350 on another one, now my iMac has run out of gas. It's four years old, and I think I simply wore it out. I took it to the Apple Store, and the Genius ran some diagnostic tests on it, and it's dead. But they tell me if I buy a new Apple, they'll try -- for free -- to extract the data from the hard drive and move it to the new one. Well, I ain't got an extra grand lying around, for crissakes. Apples cost so much. But I have no intention of buying some bloody Vista-based machine, either. I swear, I'm just going to take my books and read for a few years and give up on electronics. All they do is break down in the end.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

What sucks is I lost not just my entire FB collection but eight years' worth of family photos. All that stuff was on both my iPod and my iMac at one point, but, well, they're both dead now and I'm an idiot for never backing up my files.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

I wouldn't advise it. When I sent mine in it just came back with a short note saying it met their requirements. Yeah, like a maximum 2 hour battery life meets their requirements! Apple are arrogant.

The new iPods are sweet. Hard to choose between the iPod classic, with its 160GB of storage, or the iPod touch, which is like an iPhone without the phone (music, movies, web browser, AND a mini version of the iTunes Store, which you access via Wi-Fi). I don't care what I've said before -- I'm giving Apple more of my money, and soon.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

Isn't the biggest touch one just 16GB though? If my iPod was to suddenly break right now I know I'd go for an iPod classic. I'm not really excited by the iPod touch, I just listen to music so none of the other stuff is important to me.

It seems like people who get iPods always have problems with them within the first week or so, and then they break after a year. And yet so many of them remain loyal to Apple. It's a cult, I'm telling you.

Look who's back!
I bought an iPod about 16 months ago and no problems. But, I only use it about 5 times a year on airplane trips. |
