How many damned iPods does Apple expect me to buy over the course of my lifetime? Argh. I bought one four years ago, and it died after two years. So I bought another one. And now this one has died, two years after I bought it. I could go spend another $350 or whatever and get another, but is it just going to die in two years? I've loved my iPods, and I'm a complete Apple nut, but this is insane.
Thanks for letting me rant.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

iPods suck! I've had Creative Zen's and never had one die or had to replace a battery. The Vision:M or whatever it's called is really good, it's chunkier than the iPod equivalent (30gb) but the screen is much better, more colours, clearer and when you transfer the video over it doesn't shrink the resolution as much as the iPod does, so when you hook it up to your TV the video looks miles better.
That's the way I see it anyway.

I absolutely love my 30GB ipod. Never had a problem with it. I've only had it for about 15 months though so I'm hoping it will make it past the dreaded two year mark. I don't have any great love of Apple like coastline, but the ipod is a great product.

I've got a 1gb Creative Zen Nano. It was real cheap, and I change the contents on the weekend. It's like packing a lunch for the week. If it dies I won't give a donkey dick cause it was cheaper than a Québécois hooker. I just don't understand the ipod appeal. |

sounds like planned obsolescence if you ask me.
this thread comes at a good time. i am debating asking for an ipod for my b day. I think it would be really good to have to work out to... but I am not sure if i should get one or not. |

I'm guessing you got your 30GB ipod for christmas 05 then? Well, same here. And I enjoy it, too. Its easy to handle, does what I want, looks nice and is just overall likeable.
The only thing that bothers me a bit is the battery. That is (and was from the beginning) a bit too shortlasting for my taste. It still works for me, since I use it mainly when I move around town.
Oh, and I wish I could play chess on it. |

I can second a vote for Creative - the battery life is great which makes it worth it for me alone. Also prettier (I think).

Yeha, I have a 20gb iRiver. Lasted for ages. Quite wonderful, but rather hard to get nowadays, as they didn't sell that well. |

Yeah, kelladwella, Christmas '05 for me. I agree about the battery life on the ipod but it's no big problem for me either since I just use it for walking to and from college every day.

My iriver has kind of died on me. It still works but I think something has happened to the USB port, as PC's no longer recognise it as connected, meaning I can't add any more music. I will still use it from time to time, as it has 40GB of music on it, but I now have a black 80GB Ipod video, which I love. Ippods have won me over.

Just because your iRiver has died doesn't mean you leap over to the darkside! What about Creative?

Just because of your prior "Hurrah for iriver" in other threads, I wasn't expecting such a radical change I guess. Of course you can love the one AND the other.

I love my 60GB Ipod...i have it for 1 year and I didn´t have problem, the only complain is about the earphones, it sucks, I bought a good Sony earphones and I very happy. Also I bought a cradle, DLO, where I can manage it with a remote control and I can plug it into my stereo system and my home theatre, you can surf it in your tv and watch videos. Damn...I thinking that I spent a lot of money around my Ipod..but it worth it |

they say you shouldn't wear the earphones they come with anyway. Unless you want to get mugged.
Simon, Creatives don't have an 80GB video version do they?

My original ipod earphones broke the other day. I spent a quid replacing them with some Phillips ones. So far so good. I wonder if they'll last longer than about two weeks though? For a pound, probably not, but I don't fancy spending £25 on some new earphones.

I recently upgraded to the 80GB Video model, and I was surprised how quickly it filled up with everything. But I've had it around six or seven months now with no problems. Hopefully if I treat it right it'll last quite a while longer. I am a bit of a MacAddict, though, so I'm a little bias. My brother just visited the 5th Ave. store in NYC, and he picked me up a new iPod Shuffle, which I absolutely love. I can wear that while I'm doing physical therapy and just clip it anywhere on my body that's out of the way, which is great. I'd be too afraid to use my 80GB, for fear of it getting smashed by a weight, or flying out of my pocket or something. And listening to F.B. takes my mind off the fact that I'm doing tedious, grueling exercises. I highly recommend them.

How much does the iPod shuffle hold? Not much, I'm guessing? I usedta have one of those iPod nanos that held four gigabytes, which is a joke compared to the amount of music I have. And I had to sell it to buy textbooks anyway. Plus I didn't want to be listening to an iPod all the time and like ruining my hearing or getting mugged. |

Well I constantly listened to mine, and I just figured it couldn't be good for my ears. Plus it was too tempting to just listen to my like fifty favorite songs over and over, like I do when I play music on my computer, and I've been trying to get back into actually listening to full albums, on a stereo. |

The Shuffle carries 1GB. Yes, that's quite small compared to, say, my 80GB, but a Shuffle isn't for carrying all of your music. Just enough to take out with you for the day or whatever. It'll still hold 20 or so albums, which is plenty if you're going to be around your computer again soon, which is usually the case.

I'm on my second as well, I had a lovely 40GB one, but after, yeah, about 2 years it broke. I couldn't afford another large one, so I now have an 8GB Nano, it seems a little sturdier than the larger models, I think it's shell is some kind of metal rather than plastic, but I don't like it that much, because I have like 1.5Gbs of Frank, another 3 or so of Lou Reed/VU, and about 2.5 of Jonathan Richman/Modern Lovers, the rest is filled with mostly Current 93, and I constantly have to shuffle it around...so...yeah. |
