Nick Cave's Tin Machine?
Dunno, that's what I got on first listen to a few tracks.

that's kind of like saying "where should i start with frank?"
my advice: go get the birthday party "hits" album now. right now. then get "no more shall we part" with the bad seeds. marvel at the evolution.

My amateur opinion on the Bad Seeds is that it is a large band that sounds like a trio - lots of space (good), lots of wasted musicians (bad). But i trust the opinion of many on this board highly enough that i may procure that Birthday Party album.

i can see where you might get that from the early years, but have you heard the recent stuff, post murder ballads? it's just astonishingly good (except nocturama, which is nick's honeycomb).
plus, he's a totally snappy dresser.

Nick Cave's best of album is one of the few that's become an essential record in its own right. It's a really good mix and a good place to start. Other than that, Boatman's Call is possibly my favourite: anything with Limetree Arbour on rules.

That interview is fantastic. Zane Lowe asks three questions in row, and gets shot down in flames for each one.
Zane: so I'm hearing Ziggy Stardust in this Nick: No, this is personal, not an invented persona.
etc
I so wish I was going to All Tomorrow's Parties, for the whole lineup.
And I was saying to someone yesterday how I've always wanted to grow a moustache like that, but I have reservations. Partly because it would make me look more like my dad.

Do you think? I quite enjoyed it, although it's admittedly patchy. It didn't suck like Honeycomb.

eh. i guess you're right in the sense that nocturama had two or three strong tracks, as opposed to honeycomb which had zero strong tracks. the song nocturama is actually quite nice but didn't make the album for some reason.

i know only two or three of us care but i'm gonna keep posting links till i'm well satisfied. the grinderman website is awesome, i hope frank eventually sets up something like this for his new stuff.
