fun film. i love reading all the reviews about how the acting is bad, or the plots don't make sense. in this case, calling the films 'bad' is sort of a compliment to the filmmakers

Yeah, it is an interesting point of view. The one thing I don't think the author picked up on is that Planet Terror is a satire of zombie/horror movies. And I thought Deathproof was one of the most complex feminist movies that I have ever seen. Zoe rocks!

For some reason the mention of a new Tarantino film gives me no kind of boner whatsoever anymore. Not even a partial. When I was 19 and taking bong rips everyday Pulp Fiction was the greatest. But I look at his films now and they are so over the top "stylish" that I frankly want to puke.

Sorry to hear Tarantino doesn't give you erections anymore. Of course, all his movies will suck if you compare them to Pulp Fiction. I learned this mistake with Kill Bill. But that Japanese band the 5.6.7.8's certainly gave me an erection. And yeah, I wanked.

Well, I can't wait to see this film. Tarantino... well he's Tarantino. Pulp Fiction is one of my all time favorite movies. Ever. Some people just don't get it though. I hope Grindhouse is equally as good as Pulp Fiction. Travolta and Uma's dance scene is classic. Oh sorry, got off subject there for a second. Anyway, I have not seen any of the Kill Bill movies. I want to see those too. My BF is not into Tanantino. He only watched the first 30 min. of Pulp Fiction and then he said it was stupid and he was not going to watch it anymore. My mom even liked it after she watched it. I watched it with her and explained the events and meanings.
Anyway, I can't wait to see this one.

I used to think Jackie Brown was better than Pulp Fiction. Then the other day I catched a bit of PF, and even horribly dubbed in French, it was still good. It was the scene with Chris Walken, probably the best part of the movie, so that helped.
Can't wait to see Grindhouse, although I hated Sin City. Apparently they're gonna release the 2 movies separately here in France, which sucks, but if it's so I don't think I'll see Planet Terror. Though it's a zombie movie... argh... I'm torn.

PULP FICTION still holds up. i really love the KILL BILL series. i think the KILL BILL's, together, are almost perfect - except for the last 10 minutes of vol. II.

I'm probably gonna have to miss Grindhouse in the theatre. Is it worth getting a babysitter and that crap, or can I wait for DVD? Maybe I can sneak away from work for a matinee. Someone give me a verdict. Deal, or no deal?
Reason I ask is that after seeing Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill (especially Volume 1) in the theater, the DVD experience is very underwhelming. Tarantino is meant to be on a screen, seen with people who can cringe with you.
If you only saw Kill bill Vol. 1 on DVD, you totally missed out. On the big screen, it was some of the best eye candy I've ever seen.

it's a lot of fun but i don't think it would kill you to wait for DVD. i mean, i think all films are better in the theatre. all films (good films) should be seen in the theatre, but GRINDHOUSE isn't an upper-eschalon Tarantino (or Rodriguez) film. they're almost throw-away films . they're more about having fun with the genre than trying to make serious cinema.
seems like a lot of people are saying PLANET TERROR is the better of the two, but i personally thought the Tarantino one was better. it's pretty cleverly constructed. he really knows how to build suspense, and take you in a completely different direction than you thought you were going. and he's got a pretty insane imagination..

I'll 99% agree. Because I unfortunately saw "Baby's Day Out" in the theatre, and not only was it the worst movie I've ever seen, I also fell asleep in the middle of it. But most of the time, even bad films are still better on the screen than in your living room. It's just more transporting when heads are 30 feet tall.
Although seeing a zit on a 30 foot tall Michael J. Fox's head in "Teen Wolf" is not my fondest memory. Did anyone else see Teen Wolf in the theatre?

Teen Wolf, now there's a movie that holds up!
Maybe I was a bit harsh on Quentin. Jackie Brown is good and Resovoir Dogs is definitely good.

Didn't Tarantino produce or have some connection to Hostel? I think I remember seeing him promote it. |

I think Eli Roth, who directed Hostel did some work on Grindhouse. So yeah, I do believe there's a connection, but I'm too lazy to look it up. Check out IMDB. I half read some article on Grindhouse in Entertainment Weekly, and I seem to remember them mentioning Eli Roth.

Tarantino executive produced HOSTEL. i think he pretty much got it off the ground, and helped out Eli Roth, by attaching his name to it. Eli Roth directed one of the fake trailers in GRINDHOUSE.
in a more obscure film-geek Tarantino/Roth connection: Tarantino got Japanese film director Takeshi Miike (who he's a huge fan of) to make an apperance in HOSTEL, and now Tarantino will be returning the favor and playing a small role in Miike's SUKIYAKI WESTERN DJANGO, a Japanese spaghetti western
