Do you like Chris Isaak? I do and I'm listening to him a lot lately (even though the music strikes me as very summer-y, if anything).
I think he's a great songwriter in the classic 50s-early 60s non-confessional just-good-songs-about-breakups-'n-stuff sense, a great singer, and I like his totally uncool influences (he's a big fan of Pat Boone and Connie Francis, which I can appreciate).
I just ordered the five Chris Isaak albums I don't have on Amazon today. |

My wife and fell in love with his Baja Sessions album when we were first married. Before that, I thought he was a one-trick pony, and would forever just be the "Wicked Game" guy. My 7-year-old's middle name is Isaak -- we got the name from my wife's brother, but changed the spelling from Isaac to Isaak because we loved Chris Isaak so much. When my son was 2 and 3 years old, we played that CD for him every single night. Hearing it reminds me of those days, so Chris Isaak always have a place in my heart.
Oh, and I do enjoy all of his work, not just Baja Sessions. Does he still have that TV show?
And aren't you havin' fun? |

Baja Sessions might be his best album (of the incomplete sampling I have heard). The packaging perfectly expresses its absolute breeziness, and his Roy Orbison cover holds up next to the original (no small accomplishment). Also, if you have a good stereo, Baja Sessions is an extraordinarily good-sounding CD. It's simultanously slick/clean sounding and very realistic, like there's a band in the room with you.
That said, I've played San Francisco Days four times today, while I sip wine and while away the slow work-from-home day. |

The television show on Showtime was somewhat of a guilty pleasure of mine. I'm not sure if it's on any more.

Ah, that explains why you suddenly ordered five CDs at once!
Damn, a glass of wine would make the day go faster. I work in a big newspaper office, though, so I can't see it happening. Twenty or 30 years ago, maybe, but not anymore. I'm 34, so I missed out on the age of drunken, hard-nosed journalists with flasks of whiskey in their desk.
And aren't you havin' fun? |

I loved the show, one of the best things that was on TV. It is not on anymore and it is not available on DVD. You can sign a petition.
I don't seek out this music, although I think Isaak and his band are excellent musicians. |

Baja Sessions is a perfect album ( the re-done "Two Hearts", and "Think of Tomorrow"- the only really happy song he does that I can think of ). And San Francisco Days and Forever Blue are great for listening to out by the pool |

I love Baja Sessions. One time my ex and I were driving up to the summit of Pikes Peak in Colorado listening to Forever Blue for the first time, and we laughed so hard about how badly he must have been dumped before he wrote the songs on that album. He is great in concert as well, and that is one tight band. He even signed autographs at a table in the lobby and I thought my ex was gonna have him sign her chest or something (he was definitely one of her celebrity-outs).
I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything |

Ass drumming apparently occurred often during their San Francisco Days. That's all I know about that.

I always liked Wicked Game. REM have covered that live, actually. I don't know his other stuff! |

I haven't listened to him much besides the show but I sure dig Somebody's Crying. Such a good song.

I am a fan of Forever Blue. "Baby Did A Bad Bad Thing" is pretty intense for Mr. Isaak.

Forever Blue is a super album. "Baby Did a Bad Bad Thing" really rocks. The guy has his own style.
