I too would be most eager to hear of any news...
I am absolutely mystified as to why the Pixies would play a rubbish festival like V rather than the Big Day Out, which would be squarely in the middle of their main listening audience.
I really, really hope they do the right thing by fans and play a reasonable number of side shows. |

I know. I am so disappointed that they are finally coming and it's being accompanied by all this rubbish :S
Please announce sideshows soon... |

They played the V fest over here, too. Not the best festival in the world, but...
Australia's a huge place compared to this little island. I sympathise with you, valkyr. I do hope, for both yours and every other fans sake, that they manage a tour of some sort just so you can witness the phenomenon that once was the Pixies. Just a guess, but I'm sure they wouldn't go all that way for just one gig. |

I can't afford it either, but my partner and I are flying over from New Zealand for the V Festival (and hopefully for sideshows). We're maxing out our credit because: 1. who knows when they will break-up again; 2. who knows when/if they will come back 'down under'; and 3. its the freakin' Pixies!
But I am taking a bit of a gamble on them turning up to V... And there BETTER be sideshows as well... |

Unfortunately there hasn't been too much 'buzz' about the Pixies in Australia. Not sure whether it's for this reason there haven't been any promoters getting behind Melbourne or whether it's because of the V Festival contracts. Coppel used to be a lawyer, so maybe it's the latter.
I think I wrote in another thread it would surprising if the Pixies didn't do Melbourne. I know The Man likes a drive, so he'd surely be down there for the Great Ocean Road route. Guess it's a numbers game here.
Nature of the beast, but it's a little annoying that a limited entertainer like 'Kylie' can pack out stadiums, but when the Pixies announce there's not much doing.
valkyr, better get out the Gregory's or book a flight to Sydney.

What do you think is the latest I can leave it?
And does anyone know if under 18's are allowed at the V Festival? |

Well, if it is indeed about $$$ they would surely do well out of a series of mid-sized venue shows around Australia. I am very confident they would sell out such venues in all mainland capitals.
And I know that they are partly concerned about money, but they have a very devoted fanbase in Australia and it really stinks that V is the only option at the moment. For me this would involve flights from Adelaide ($300ish return), accommodation ($$$$ in Sydney), all the usual travel expenses, tickets of course, and all to see them play a festival which will have very dubious atmosphere from the looks of the lineup. I just cannot justify it.
Edit: should add, from a financial point of view if they're flying all the way down here it makes sense to play plenty of shows - getting here with all their gear etc would be the big cost. |
