This was the first pixies song i heard after where is my mind.
So it was my first exposure to there well "catalogue"

At first i didnt really take to it.
I thought it sounded kinda like it should have been in a mexiacan road movie like "dusk till dawn or something"

I remember playing to my friend who really liked the spanish pixies songs as he put it.
When i played he literally hugged me and said god bless you. I never really understood that till many months later.

But now i know why. I know why someone would say that to any pixies song.
This song captures what many lack these days. A sense of atmosphere. When you hear you can just picture the many images in your head of the long road ahead. A loner. Abused and saying what he feels.

One of the greatest groooves in rock history

"If all you've seen, is violence!"

I love this song. The bit that instantly hit me was "You are the son of a motherfucker". I just thought it sounded funny. I like the sound of the acoustic guitar too.
I remember going into school the next day ant telling my mate "You've got to hear this song, it's amazing!".

"The arc of triumph"

My thing about this song is Charles' sense of the place dignity/humanity/decency/whatever has in songwriting. Other songwriters aren't apt to show humility or embaressment like that, like the way he does after uttering the mf line. You see it time and again in lines like 'How many, no one really knows' in Dam Disaster and 'Oh it's silly I know' in the Marsist. He may look down but he never shys away. It's courageous.

And if you don't buy that then delivering country music at speed is insanely ingenious.

"you are the son of a motherfucker"

should be captured and blue printed as the line of indie rock

"If all you've seen, is violence!"
