I'm doing a little research into Frank's religious lyrics. I'm trying to compile a list of songs he's done with a religious theme and explore what those are talking about. For instance, Gouge Away is about Sampson, but is that all? What is the 'twist'? Any help provided would be much appreciated.
Here is the list so far:
I've Been Tired - Song of Solomon
Nimrod's Son - Nimrod (biblical King)?
Dead - David and Bathesheba
Gouge Away - Sampson and Delilah
Jaina Blues - Jainaism
maybe I'll kick it

Jesus Was Right is about a somewhat religious old dude (2,000 years old, that is). All My Ghosts -- I'm still trying to figure out that one, but I think it's worth looking into. Go Find Your Saint -- loose connection. I'm sure there are more, but those ones jumped out at me. The frankblack.net Discopedia is surely a great resource, though, for this sort of thing. I browse and search that thing all the time.

Have you read Ben Sisario's book on Doolittle? Some interesting insights in there I'd recommend picking up for your work.

I'm doing a couple of FB related things for university, and my prof is doing something as well. I'm not sure how much information I can give out about what she's doing though, sorry.
I'm doing a paper on religious theme's in Frank's music as well as a little thing on FB and Larry Norman.

| it's been metioned before, but in the song "all my ghosts" when frank sings about the giants, he's refering to the nephilim mentioned in genesis 6:4 and numbers 13:33, which resulted from "the sons of God" (angels)having children with mortal women. it's said goliath would have descended from these people. it's seems to me the rest of the song warns against men messing with God's natural plan for man. i'd like to hear frank's take. the song "billy radcliff" also seems to touch on this. |

| Heloise may not be biblical but it defiantly shows some religious views (regarding the church)....I have no evidence to base this on but my knowledge of Frank and his complexity of writing I don't think "Jesus is Right" religious. He may have been using it as metaphor for nonviolence but I don't think there is much else to it than that. I mean read the lyrics and its clear. |

| I never saw "Jeus was Right" as being a religious song.... If anything I think the reference to Jesus can almost be described as "whimsical." |

speedy..giving your prof the opportunity to meet up with frank! well done! i was talking to her at the show and she seemed pretty grateful. that was cool having her there.

Now THAT is an amazing thread. Kudos to fumanbru for his commentary. All that's missing from this great analysis is frnck blck stopping by and clearing things up a little. I know he'll never do that, but if he did, I'd wish him to do it on this one. Seems to me, when somebody asks for an explanation of a song, he says something like "It's in the lyrics."
