phone you up, ask for some confirming details (like your address) then ask you for your account password to confirm who you are?? FFS, they could be anyone, yet they propagate the idea that it's ok to give out sensitive data over the phone to someone who phones you up. Then they are utterly confused when you refuse to give them said data.
F*cking morons.

well, maybe they weren't the real company? most wouldn't ask for that kind of thing... i know a lot of online things make a point of that.

Well, there is that, but it's happened before from legitimate companies (the AA and Royal Bank of Scotland to name two). And we just bought something from this particular company.
If it was genuine (and they didn't hide their number, which, when I called it back just now was a recorded message) then it's terrible and they should change their policy. I might follow it up.
Anyone here work in a call centre who does this kind of thing, or who will happily give over personal data to people who phone them?

I get to be wilfully obstinate in not handing over people's personal data sometimes. I enjoy that. You wouldn't believe the number of people who don't understand the basic principles of data protection.

An employee sent us a photocopy of his credit card the other day. We had some fun with that.

I bet it would amaze us the number of people who would give out their personal information when caught a little bit off guard by a call. Even in this day and age.
I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything |
