my first reaction: YAY!!!!!x12000
second: they toyed with the notion a bit more in the press last round out to start a tour, it seems maybe just me being conspiracy theoristish but i wonder if maybe assuaging the fans that it isn't pure nostalgia bodes well come tour time? cynical i know, just a thought i had but i'll go back and settle on YAYx12000 |

After seeing loudQUIETloud I'd be surprised if anything good came from a Pixies collaboration. I know the movie told the story the directors wanted to tell and that may have been a total farce but they really didn't seem to be even remotely able to communicate with one another. Quite frankly it makes perfect sense to me why Kim is hesistant to agree to writing songs with people she can barely relate to anymore. It's sad but understandable.
That being said I'd love to see them give it a try and see what happens. What do they have to lose? The reunion thing has been done and now its time to either write new stuff or go their seperate ways for another 5-10 years again or else be the county fair band. They still have the magic when they play their old songs on stage so there is certainly hope that they could find chemistry in the studio. However if loudQUIETloud is even remotely accurate in their portrayal of being so emotionally distant and unable to talk with one another I have serious doubts about their ability to collaborate at all on something new where give and take is a huge part of the process.
If I were the man I would make sure that going into the studio was done in secret with the promise that nothing would be released unless unanimously approved by all band members. That way there would be no pressure and if it didn't work out no public failure. It would also undoubtedly help to once and for all put the talk of a new album to rest and they could stop the specualtiion once and for all. I can't imagine the man suggesting that a new album is being held up by Kim is making her very happy. Nobody wants to be the Yoko in that dynamic.

I don't think she'd quite be seen a Yoko, as many fans agree that she should be cautious.

You know what would be great? A Frank Black album with Joey, Kim & Dave as guest musicians. Kind of like what Joey did on TOTY and DiTS, with, let's say a duet or two with Kim, and Dave playing the drums on another couple of songs. That would rule.

Do you have a rock band and toured with them more than a month ? I did and I can tell you that less communication is good in that situation. Its a situation like the movie "cube" You have to be very very zen. If the music doesnt stay the most important, you'll certainly have troubles. Any rock musician that watches Loudquietloud would find them very cool and normal, as a dotor wouldnt be disgusted watching a chirugical operation. I dont know if it would be good to LOVE a member of your band. |

Frank Black on Pixies Album
Pixies front man Frank Black has just released a Best-Of compilation of his solo work.
Titled Frank Black 93-03 the two CD set will also include one new track, a preview from an album full of new material he'll release in September.
When Kingsmill caught up with Frank on the phone this week he had to ask if we're even gonna get any new music from the Pixies.
"No, I don't think that that Pixie's record's gonna happen. I mean I could be wrong I don't know.... Just raffling the personalities all in to a recording studio is a problem you know. [RK] Still that seems to be the issue? [FB] Oh yeah, always will be with certain bands you know."

She wants to keep safe their legacy, you can't blame it. I guess it's better this way. They won't scratch their cult status nor hurt their fans with a lame album. I'm not sayin' that a new record would be lame, but it is a possibility because their five LPs are in the highest standard...
... So it seems to be hard to challenge it with so many times passed and so many individuals experiences gained by each member. They won't sound like they used to, they won't stick to their usual songs structure. And maybe Kim Deal doesn't want to be evicted of the composition process this time. |

they defently could make one of the best albums i thought that the radio lizards guitar version in the dvd menu on christmass would be an amazing opening to a new pixies song

At first I would have welcomed a new Pixies album, but after all this "will they, won't they" it might be just too much of a let down when they actually do.
I'm happy with more Black Francis/Frank Black records to be honest. Rather that than the Pixies.

Is there going to be a new Breeders record. Is this the one that has been imminent for 3 years now?

I want a new Breeders album. I want a new Black Francis album. I want a new Martinis album. I want a new Frank Black & The Catholics album. And I really want a new Pixies album.

not too sure about this whole "legacy" thing ; bit egoistic and wanky, if you ask me. My prediction for the pixies album if they ever make it would be that it will be, er, very good.
And if they don't make, we still have FB, or BF, or Charles or whatever he's called today.
but i think "legacy" is a really bad reason for not making another one. |
