I just got The Modern Dance by PERE UBU remixed in 5.1. Very nice reintroduction to this album. Great concept that 5.1 thing. Much better fellings than a stereo album, better immersion than live experience. Suitable for rock music as well as electronic dub shit. The Talking Heads albums remixed that way are jouissifs (special mention for Remain in Lights) and the Depeche Mode ones just very very pleasant!
I'm longing to hear Surfer Rosa or Trompe le Monde with this multi-dimensional sound.
The other benefit of 5.1 is, if it recorded in DTS, SACD, DVD-audio, or any "advanced resolution" format, the music is much more alive sounding. In the best of these (SACD and DVD-audio), the sound approaches the sweetness of analog. Since Mr. Black seems to have a soft spot for analog, that would be really cool if any of the back catalogue or future catalogue were released that way. But it's pretty unlikely to occur because 1) it's expensive 2) not many people actually listen to music in a room with 5.1 setup (most are listening while driving or on headphones) 3) the kids are happy with mp3s
