Disc 1 Survivor saw the victory of If Your Poison Gets You, followed closely by Johnny Barleycorn. Disc 2 is full of excellent songs so we can expect a fun game. For the record, tracklisting is as follows:
01 In The Time Of My Ruin 02 Down To You 03 Highway To Lowdown 04 Kiss My Ring 05 My Terrible Ways 06 Fitzgerald 07 Elijah 08 It's Just Not Your Moment 09 The Real El Rey 10 Where The Wind Is Going 11 Holland Town 12 Sad Old World 13 Don't Cry That Way 14 Fare Thee Well
As said previously, I'll try to make the rounds shorter this time (no more than 4 or 5 days). Go ahead and vote off your least favorite.

Ha, I've noticed that we have mostly opposite opinions on fmrm. It was going to be My Terrible Ways until I remembered the car crash that is IJNYM.

I don't like My Terrible Ways. I'm gonna vote either that one or Holland Town off.

I can hardly even listen to the second disc anymore, so it's hard to remember which ones I dislike most.

hmm...let's go with "Where the Wind is Going"--LOVE the bridge ("Through the barleycorn..."), don't much care for the kind of spoken verses.

"Highway to Lowdown" - it wasn't good enough for HC, and that is saying something.

I think I need to give it one more spin to refresh my memory. So many cracking tracks, but a few that haven't stuck in my memory.

Hahahaha...
Well, maybe this game will encourage me to listen more to disc 2, but so far I have to say I see relatively few songs I'd feel bad about seeing booted. Especially compared to Disc 1.

Maybe you need more spins of Disc 1 and I need more Disc 2.

In a certain way, the 2nd disc reminds me of COR. 3 or 4 excellent songs but... well, you see what I mean.

Down To You. The second worst Frank Black song ever. Take every reason for which we fell in love with Frank in the first place, most notably the way he wrote songs that no one else could write--songs that sounded like nobody else--and then try to sum up the exact opposite of that in one song.
Anybody could have written this song, I picture an old crooner like Paul Anka singing this song on Des and Mel in the early afternoon. Scratch that; I picture Des O'Connor himself belting this out. Crooning to an audience where the average audience member predates penicillin. Frank messed up here. |

At a chance of being ridiculed, I'll say Real El Rey. I'll have to listen to Disc 2 some more before I can really decide.

Now, I don't mind about other people's choices, but this is going too far. Go listen to it again, it's the best song on the record by far.

Sad Old World: It's not the song's fault. It's the Huey Lewis arrangement.

Damn, I forgot Kiss My Ring was on there too. Still in denial that it made it onto a record.

Despite llama's poor music taste, I'll have to say:
Kiss My Ring
any song that has the line, "spill my seed on the ground", shouldn't last long. |

Am I the only person who thinks "Highway to Lowdown" is one of the finest examples of song craftsmanship and lyric-writing in all of Frank's catalogue? Seriously.

What about "Alcohol and speed were friends"? And yet nobody has voted against Holland Town. I like Kiss My Ring, the chord progression is nice.

pfft, are you still holding the Eagles against me? Next you'll be telling me you don't like Free. Good choice though, a rare moment of sanity.
