This is the in-person interview we did this past Sunday before his show in Indianapolis. The interview has had little, if any doctoring done to it, so if there are any grammar mistakes, they were the way they came out. It's pretty long, about a 35 minute interview, but it's really cool.

Check it out.

Hi, great interview and photos. Interesting, he points out again how Devils Workshop is probably his fave and how it's overlooked. I like the blase shrug he's doing in that first pic!

Wunderbar.

If you're planning to get a ton of people to read what I think is a high-quality interview, I would recommend having someone run back through the text to fix it up some. A few spots are kind of distractingly poor, grammatically or whatever. I would be happy to do it even. The quality of the moment deserves a better presentation.

But seriously, thanks a lot for sharing it. It really is very good.

(Should move to FB Making Noise?)

As I said in the opening post...there are grammar mistakes...and I know it...but it's a true snapshot of the recording. I didn't want to go through and try to correct how something was said, because that's how he said it. I think, at least in my opinion, it gives more of a true dialogue feeling...plus, I wanted to get it out there as quick as I could for you guys, the fans. Even with the grammar and mispellings (I'm sure there are some) I think it's absolutely awesome.

PS~If I posted in the wrong spot...sorry. I don't have a problem if the admin needs to move it to another category.

Obviously Frank talks about the fb.net forum here, and he finds it too intellectual and fussy. Well, if we don't talk about the little details, what are we going to say? Frank is not at all a sound freak. He thought Steve Albini WAS a sound freak, and then he commented he didn't want anymore that kind of producer. That's a part of his spontaneous talent, he's anti-analysis attitude.
Her reminds me of the 40's and 50's filmmakers like Howard Hawks or John Ford, who prefered to consider themselves as workers, and never wanted to discuss the details with the interviewers.

Superb interview! You really got him talking.

My guess on the hotel was the Hilton Garden on The Circle-- judging from the view of the parking garage and building you could see from the window.

lol that is so funny. great interview. it was nice that you really published those long quotes. So spill the beans, what was it like interviewing him, are there any questions that you didn't publish that you could publish here, what are other observations you made that you didn't publish? are you a frank fan or was this just an assignment? what was the show like...???? is that the first time that you saw fb live? what was the crowd like? was he your coolest interview ever???

(you really don't have to answer all those questions... :) )

from a little rat that used wear all black all the time to hang out in broadripple in middle school and high school in the 80's/90's... glad indy is finally getting a music scene.

one of the best interviews ever
there are millions of Frank interviews but he actually says new things in this one.
I especially liked the things he said about local bands, I love local bands
but I never saw it the way he sees it. Get your band to play more out of town.
Sounds simple, but I find it a difficult step to take. Maybe I'm not that serious about
playing in a band.

To answer these questions (when I say "I", I mean myself not Indy Music Scene):
1. We published every question we asked, with every single word he responded with.
2. Until that night I had yet to see Frank live, but the person I had due the interview was a huge fan. Said his life was complete after doing the interview. I was taking pictures during it. (our sites a little different than other online publications, we don't do stuff for the traffic, we only do stuff that we can really get behind, and that's why I had another person do the interview, someone who could have his whole heart in it.)
3. The show was great, I would call myself a fan now
4. He is without doubt the best interview we've done to date...it's gonna be hard to top it. I think the only thing on the horizon that may come close is the interview with Roger Waters (if we get it).

We're very proud of this, and we're happy to see that it's getting well received.

Thanks that is so cool!! :) I wish more publications had interviews like indymusic scene. It's nice having everything the artist says instead of having just really short quotes everywhere.
