At the moment I have no way of responding to the comments received from the discopedia. If you want feedback on what you send me then please include your forum handle/email address when you comment.

If you've noticed that I haven't made an alteration on what you have sent me it's because I need to confirm it and at the moment I've been a bit too busy to do much in the way of research. I have a couple of entries I really need to edit but just haven't had chance yet, those will get done this afternoon.

So, some of the things I've been sent that I need to query:

It's Just Not Your Moment

Maybe about Kim Deal?
--
Does anyone have any thoughts on that
--
In The Time of My Ruin

About his new wife and kid being born.
--
You Never Heard About Me

Lyric Query: I had heard nobody singing / no birdie singing
--

So, thoughts?

I'm pretty sure its "I heard nobody singing" It makes sense with the rest of the lyrics.

I heard nobody singing

and I heard no rock and roll

Kim Deal? That hadn't occured to me. I assume 'To Darin at the Troubador' is a reference to Bobby Darin.

Yeah, I reckon In The Time Of My Ruin is about Frank meeting Violet in the 'ruins' of his post-breakup with Jean. Just checking the lyrics in the database, I thought 'They're caving in the roof' was 'That kingdom in my ruin'!!

Yeah, good call on the Bobby Darin. I believe there was also a comment on Tony of Tony's Theme being a character from an early Jim Carrey movie, though I was able to find no such thing.

Yeah, the Bobby Darin story is in the last podcast (21:10). Troubador is a great place to see Frank Black. I'm looking forward to the show in November, but there really are about a dozen places I'd rather see FB than HOB.

Time ruin = Jack Errol

It's like he's telling the story to Jack while he sleeps. Maybe even fatherly advice: "Some pain feels good . . ."

I agree.

I suspect Time of My Ruin is indeed about the wife/fam (Violet, after all, was a curator though they didn't meet there I don't think) but we need to match up definite references (i.e. specific lines) and hopefully back it up.

[EDIT] Sorry - referring to "Not yer moment"
Almost seems like Frank is singing to (real or imaginary) past flings. Perhaps (real or imaginary) love affairs with (a) French girl(s). Or not.

At the risk of sounding yucky, this part might refer to masturbation:

"Goodbye my go-go girls
My aggravation pearls
Hear the echo in the shell"

I remember Frank mentioning that Violet has an interest in architecture. I don't know if that has anything to do with it, just thought it'd be worth mentioning!!

I've done the research and added a bunch of the comments that have come in so far as it was getting to be a bit of a backlog. Specifically songs like Bad Wicked World, Two Reelers, Living on Soul, Llano del Rio, and a bunch of little updates. Learned some stuff myself (I didn't know Bad Wicked World was about a TV show, or much history about the Three Stooges, or that the same Job Harriman from Ole Mullholland is responsible for founding Llano, or that Pearblossom is a deadly highway, not some crazy cactus fruit).

One thing, I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the lyrics to Tony's Theme. Particularly the last verse. I have _no_ idea what he's saying there, the suggestion was "I cut the grass when I'm told / AFTER CLASSES!"

Yeah, that's what I thought it was. That's how AlecEiffel.net have it. And 'He's got the oil on his chain, for a ride in the rain' for the fisrt line after Kim's little intro!

These are some areas where I think it should be different:

(____ _____ _____) turn my back to the town
I'm racing spitfire turn and pop a wheelie burn(in')
People chasing

AND

I can look at the sun
if you gimme some bad/black sunglasses
(While/go/and) back on the road
Hip-hoppin grass/cracks like a toad
After classes!

I definitely hear a 'toad' in there, and look at the sun/black sunglasses makes a certain amount of sense. It's a tricky one.

AlecEiffel.net have that as:

"I can look at the sun if you give me some bad sun glasses
I'm back on the road, I cut my grass like I'm told
AFTER CLASSES!"

add 'Run' to the Disco.P, pleeeeease? It doesn't need it's own page, nuffin' like that, just to be acknowledged in the index, that's all. Every Pixie song has credit/One Frank song is left out all alone. Shame on us.

Remember, it's God's day off. He can't do it.

It's a song about Sonny Bono, actually. See him raised up from the dead!

from listening to a few pixies live recordings:
Effenaar, Eindhoven (15-08-1988)
Reading Festival (26-07-1990)
Toad's Place, New Haven (24-08-1989)
Town & Country Club, London (04-07-1988)
Borderline, London (1990) - solo
this is the best that i can figure out:

And I turn my back(?) to the blacktop town
I'm racing spitfire turn and pop a wheelie burn'in
Evil chasing

AND

I can look at the sun
if you gimme some bad sunglasses
While i go back on the road
Hip-hoppin grass like a toad
After classes!

the first line of the first one is the trickiest....not sure about 'back' but the rest i'm pretty positive on...
however, it's definitely "evil chasing"
while the 2nd one is easier to figure out..

if people interested i can upload all the tony's theme live recordings i have for others to compare...

this is fun.,..

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian
